The dryline pushed into the western South Plains and western Panhandle during the early afternoon hours. Moisture was in place along and ahead of this feature with surface dewpoint temperatures in the mid 60s to lower 70s. Thunderstorms erupted along/ahead of the dryline early in the afternoon. Strong instability supported strong to severe thunderstorm updrafts, despite the rather weak wind shear that was present. The most intense convection developed over Lamb and Hockley Counties. The slow-moving multicellular storm occasionally showed weak to moderate mid-level updraft rotation and produced hail up to golfball size over southeastern Lamb and northeastern Hockley Counties as well as locally heavy rainfall that resulted in flooding. The cluster of storms accelerated and took on a bow echo structure as it moved into Lubbock County. Widespread wind damage occurred over northern and western Lubbock County. The West Texas Mesonet station at Reese Center measured wind gusts approaching 80 mph with sustained winds above 50 mph for more than 25 minutes.
