Winter Storm in North Carolina, December 3, 2000
The first major winter storm of the season produced heavy snow across the Coastal Plain of North Carolina on the afternoon of December 3. A low pressure system developed off the coast and quickly moved northeast, preventing the snowfall from moving west of Raleigh.

The first major winter storm of the season produced heavy snow across the Coastal Plain of North Carolina on the afternoon of December 3. A low pressure system developed off the coast and quickly moved northeast, preventing the snowfall from moving west of Raleigh. Most locations along and east of I-95 received between 4 and 8 inches, with some locations in Edgecombe county recording nearly a foot of snow. The snow created hazardous driving conditions, leading to numerous accidents and several road closures. Many county schools were either closed or delayed the next day or two.
