A cold front swept across the panhandle during the late afternoon of the 2nd. A thunderstorm producing brief heavy downpours and large hail formed along the front and moved across Berkeley County. Quarter sized hail fell in the community of Berkeley and near Route 45 on the Berkeley and Jefferson County borders between 4:30 PM and 4:40 PM.
