Strong Wind in Pennsylvania, December 30, 1998
For the second time in about a week, strong winds buffeted Eastern Pennsylvania. The difference in surface pressure between a deepening low pressure system over the Canadian Maritimes and a high pressure system over Illinois and Missouri produced peak wind gusts during the daylight hours of 40 to 45 mph in most areas.

For the second time in about a week, strong winds buffeted Eastern Pennsylvania. The difference in surface pressure between a deepening low pressure system over the Canadian Maritimes and a high pressure system over Illinois and Missouri produced peak wind gusts during the daylight hours of 40 to 45 mph in most areas. A 48-year-old man was seriously injured when the wind knocked over an oak tree onto his vehicle in Aldan Borough (Delaware County) at 10 a.m. EST. Later that afternoon the wind knocked down a second tree in Upper Darby Township in Delaware County. The highest wind gust at the Philadelphia International Airport was 43 mph.
