The remnants of Hurricane Earl produced gale force winds along the coast of eastern North Carolina early in the morning on September 4th. The strong winds caused three steel hulled trawlers to break loose from their moorings and smash into the Grayden Paul drawbridge in Beaufort.

The remnants of Hurricane Earl produced gale force winds along the coast of eastern North Carolina early in the morning on September 4th. The strong winds caused three steel hulled trawlers to break loose from their moorings and smash into the Grayden Paul drawbridge in Beaufort. The ships broke a piling and a cap on the main support beam under the east bound lane causing traffic delays for several days.
