September 4 and 5, 1998, both had record-setting heat at the Fort Smith Regional Airport (KFSM).On September 4, the high temperature of 109 degrees was the hottest temperature ever recorded in the month of September in Fort Smith. Needless to say, this was also a new record high for the day.On September 5, the high temperature of 104 degrees was enough to tie the record high for the day.
