Thunderstorms during the afternoon of the 15th spawned a tornado, produced damaging winds, and hail up to 1.75 inches in diameter.A tornado briefly touched down 8 miles northwest of Yanceyville, picking up an automobile, turning it 180 degrees and carrying it 10 feet in the air on U.S. route 29.Thunderstorm winds toppled trees and tore off tree limbs in Bethel.
