One of the most intense low pressure systems to pass through southeast Minnesota in a quarter of a century produced wind gusts up to 90 mph. This resulted in damage to trees, buildings and left thousands without power. Rochester and Austin recorded all-time lowest barometric pressure readings of 28.47 and 28.43 inches respectively. In fact, the reading at Austin established an all-time record with nearby Albert Lea for the lowest barometric pressure ever recorded in the state of Minnesota.
