Intense low pressure brought very strong winds to western Iowa from around 100 am cst through 400 pm with wind speeds of 35 to 55 mph common throughout the period. This system also produced a barometric reading of 28.54 inches at Estherville and Spencer, a record for Iowa. The winds across western Iowa initially blew from the south or southwest ahead of the low pressure before shifting to the west by late morning. Peak gusts and time of occurrence included...59 mph at Red Oak at 221 am...56 mph at Shenandoah at 204 am...54 mph at Clarinda at 225 am and 53 mph at Council Bluffs at 435 pm.
