A strong low pressure system over Kansas deepened and intensified as it moved northeast toward Lake Superior. A few thunderstorms developed along the leading edge of the system...however most damage was reported by widespread strong winds. As the low intensified, high wind advisories, and warnings were posted across Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. Numerous high profile vehicles and trees were toppled by the winds, and many homes and farm buildings suffered damage due to sustained winds 35 to 45 mph with 50 to 70 mph gusts.
