Minor to moderate coastal flooding occurred near the times of high tide. The greatest impacts occurred as excess sea water entered St. Lucie Inlet and raised water levels within the St. Lucie River. Water inundated many roadways and properties adjacent to and near the river, primarily within Palm City, Stuart, Sewall's Point and Port Salerno. High water levels within the Indian River caused roadway flooding in Jensen Beach, as well as roadway flooding and water intrusion into a few homes in Hobe Sound. Sea water also entered Jupiter Inlet and raised water levels within the Indian River and Loxahatchee River, causing roadway flooding in far south Jupiter Island and in Tequesta. Beach erosion was primarily minor to locally moderate.

Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding occurred near the times of high tide. The greatest impacts were reported near Ft. Pierce Inlet, where the boat launch was closed due to missing planks on a dock and some washouts nearby. In addition, the earthen berns surrounding several mosquito impoundments along both sides of the Indian River suffered minor erosion from overwash. Beach erosion was mainly minor, except locally moderate along portions of Ft. Pierce Beach, where about 30 feet of beachfront was lost.

Strong winds occurred from about Noon EDT until 3 PM EDT on Cape Cod. Some peak gusts from mesonet sites included 47 mph at Chapin Beach in Dennis; 45 mph at Hatch Beach in Eastham; 45 mph at Kalmus Beach in Barnstable; and 43 mph at Chatham. The AWOS at the MA Military Reservation/Otis AFB recorded a gust to 43 mph at 255 PM EDT. The ASOS at Hyannis recorded a gust to 39 mph at 211 PM EDT. In Hyannis at 140 PM EDT, a tree was down on a driveway on Gray Lane. In Orleans at 216 PM EDT, a tree was down on Brick Hill Road near Dylan's Way.

In Hampton, the astronomical tide was 10.1 feet with a storm surge of 1.5 feet at high tide to reach an 11.6 foot storm tide. Flood stage in Hampton is 11.0 feet (MLLW). Although winds were offshore, large, long period swell entered the Gulf of Maine leading to splash-over along the seacoast of New Hampshire. Nearshore waves increased to 10 feet every 16 seconds at high tide. Significant splash-over flooded roadways with seawater in Seabrook and along route 1A in Hampton.

The astronomical tide in Portland of 10.8 feet combined with a storm surge of 1.3 feet at high tide to reach a 12.1 foot storm tide during the mid afternoon hours. Flood stage in Portland is 12.0 feet (MLLW). Although winds were offshore, large, long period swell entered the Gulf of Maine leading to splash-over along the coast of southern Maine with nearshore waves up to 10 feet every 16 seconds. waves and debris splashed onto Webhanett Road in Wells, crashing over the tops of cars at its peak. Significant splash-over also occurred along Gooch���s and Kennebunk Beaches in Kennebunk.

In Yarmouth at 324 PM EDT, minor flooding was reported in the parking lot at Grey's Beach and at 615 PM EDT, there was two feet of coastal flooding on Shore Road. In Chatham at 430 PM EDT, there was minor street flooding in the Little Beach area along Little Beach Road up to Seagull Road and there was flooding on Old Wharf Road and Salt Pond Road at Scatteree Road. Also in Chatham at 608 PM EDT, there was 3 feet of coastal flooding on Seagull Road just south of Starfish Lane.

The astronomical tide in Portland of 10.8 feet combined with a storm surge of 1.3 feet at high tide to reach a 12.1 foot storm tide during the mid afternoon hours. Flood stage in Portland is 12.0 feet (MLLW). The tide remained above flood stage for 30 minutes at the Portland tide gage. The waves took down a fence at Higgin���s Beach in Scarborough with minor flooding reported along the wharf streets in Portland.

The astronomical tide in Hampton of 9.4 feet combined with minimal storm surge of 0.3 feet at high tide to reach a 9.5 foot storm tide (MLLW) which is short of flood stage inundation impacts. Flood stage in Hampton is 11.0 feet (MLLW). Although winds were offshore, large, long period swell entered the Gulf of Maine leading to splash-over along the Seacoast of New Hampshire. Nearshore waves increased to 8 feet every 16 seconds at high tide. In Hampton, splash-over flooded portions of Asheworth and adjacent streets due to the large pounding surf and elevated coastal waters.

Three houses near the beach were affected by coastal flooding. These houses were located in Bajura sector, Barrio Membrillo of Camuy. Debris was also found inside the houses.

What this means

A best track is the record a warning agency settles on after the storm, not what it said at the time: position, maximum sustained wind and central pressure every six hours, revised against every observation that came in later. Category is the Saffir-Simpson scale, which runs from Category 1 at 64 kt to Category 5 at 137 kt and reads wind only, so it says nothing about surge or rain. Accumulated cyclone energy adds up the square of the wind through the storm's life, so it counts strength and duration together.
