damaged in Mugla, Turkey. Felt (VI) at Fethiye; (V) at
Dalaman; (IV) at Alanya, Marmaris and Ortaca; (III) at
Antalya, Bodrum, Izmir, Kas and Koycegiz. Felt (IV) at
Kos and Rodos, (III) at Lardos and (II) at Irakleio,
Greece. Felt (II) at Nicosia, Cyprus and at Cairo,
Egypt. Felt in much of southwestern Turkey and the
Dodecanese Islands, Greece and in parts of Cyprus,

Areas of Greece and Turkey popular with holidaymakers were struck by earthquakes yesterday, leaving several people injured and causing significant damage to buildings. The biggest quake occurred just before 4pm yesterday afternoon, and registered 5.8 on the Richter scale. Places affected included the Greek holiday island of Rhodes, which attracts more than 1.25million British visitors every year - and the resort town of Fethiye, in south-western Turkey... The 5.8-level quake was the largest of 40 small tremors detected off Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coasts in a 24-hour period. Buildings were damaged and seven people were being treated for injuries in hospital, according to local health officials. The majority were hurt in the panic after the quake hit, jumping from balconies and windows as buildings shook. (reference #9903
