Destructive earthquake in the city of Tuscania (Latium); 24 persons were killed and 150 injured; 40 houses were destroyed, 420 rendered uninhabitable and 340 damaged; the total damage was estimated at $41 million; artistic and
historical monuments in the city suffered severely; due to damage to the communications network, the arrival of the rescue teams was somewhat delayed. Some damage was also reported at Arlena-di-Castro (60 houses rendered uninhabitable, 250 damaged), Piansano (8 houses rendered uninhabitable, 600 damaged), Canino, Bomarzo, Ischia di Castri and Zadispo1i; the shock was felt slightly at Rome.
