.SYNOPSIS...
The chance for showers and thunderstorms returns this evening as
shortwave energy slides through the region. A deep upper low will
build into south-central Canada and several disturbances will rotate
around the low bringing unsettled weather this weekend and through
next week. The upper level low looks to finally pull away by the
middle of next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Unsettled weather on tap with several round of potential showers and
thunderstorms, some of which may be strong to severe.

A hot and humid airmass is in place with temperatures in the upper
80s to low 90s, and should warm up by another degree or so this
afternoon. Surface dew points are in the upper 60s to low 70s,
resulting in heat index values near 100 throughout. This is also
resulting in 2000 to 3000 J/kg of surface-based CAPE throughout.

Surface trough approaches from the west this evening, and will touch
off widely scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the
southern Poconos, Lehigh Valley, and northwest New Jersey, some of
which will be severe. Most of the thunderstorm activity will be well
north of the southern Poconos, mainly associated with an H5 low that
is tracking through eastern Canada. There is also a sea breeze
moving west through New Jersey, and this may also help fire off some
showers and thunderstorms into this evening. There is also 25 to 30
kt of 0-6 km Bulk Shear, and PWATs are up around 1.5+ inches. Gusty
winds and heavy rain are possible.

Convection tapers off fairly quickly this evening. Warm and humid
tonight with lows in the upper 60s and low 70s.

Another trough may approach late tonight/early Friday morning. CAMs
seemed to have backed off on precip for the local area, however the
12Z ECMWF has a bullseye to the north while the 12Z GFS has an area
of precip moving into Delmarva and southern New Jersey. Most of this
would be in the 4am to 10am time frame. Will generally carry chance
PoPs during this time, which is down from likely PoPs. Again, with
high surface moisture, locally heavy rain is possible.

Due to cloudy skies on Friday, it will not be as warm as it is today
(Thursday), but it remains humid. Highs will be in the mid and upper
80s with surface dew points well in the low to mid 70s. Surface-
based CAPE values will be up around 2000 J/kg along with PWATs in
excess of 1.7 inches. 0-6 km Bulk Shear will also be 25 to 30 kt.
Another mid-level trough with strong shortwaves will approach in the
afternoon and pass through in the evening, touching off another
round of thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center has most of the
area in a Marginal Risk for severe weather. Heavy rain and strong to
potentially damaging winds possible.

Convection tapers off in the evening from west to east. Fog develops
late as dew points remain in the 70s.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Into Saturday, a strong closed upper low will oscillate around south-
central Canada and introduce an unsettled pattern across the eastern
half of the country. The first half of Saturday should be mostly dry
as subtle height rises continue ahead of an approaching potent
shortwave into the evening and overnight hours which will again
result in shower and thunderstorm development which may focus along
the sea breeze. Continued southwest flow through most of the column
will maintain a tropical-like airmass; PWAT values will remain high
and WPC again has the region in a Marginal (1/5) risk for excessive
rainfall. Wouldn't rule out a few stronger thunderstorms as the
global guidance favors 1000-1500 J/kg of taller skinny CAPE with but
less favorable shear. Expect that showers will linger into the
overnight hours as continued shortwave energy moves through.
Overnight lows look to remain a few degrees above average in the low
to mid 70s.

Sunday looks to be the more interesting and active day for the
weekend. PWATs will surge into the 2+ inch range, with dewpoints
getting into the mid 70s. An area of low pressure will slide by to
the west, with a cold front slowly approaching the region. Both
severe and hydro hazards remain on the table, but thinking the main
focus will be the potential for flash flooding as storm motion
vectors show signs of slow moving and training convection. With a
long and skinny CAPE profile as well, and very wet antecedent
conditions in most spots, it will not take much for flooding to
occur. Have included mention of heavy rain in the grids from late
Sunday morning into Sunday evening. On the severe side of things,
MLCAPE values look to be around 1000-1500 J/kg with around 30 kt
effective bulk shear. WPC maintains a Marginal Risk for Excessive
Rainfall for Sunday. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s
for most spots, with it feeling downright tropical prior to the
onset of showers and thunderstorms.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The aforementioned upper low will maintain an unsettled pattern
through early next week. Rounds of shortwaves will rotate around its
base and basically keep diurnally driven precipitation in the
forecast for the duration of the long term period. A cold front will
slide through on Sunday Night, with the potential for heavy rainfall
to continue into the evening. WPC maintains the Marginal (1/5) risk
of excessive rainfall for the area into Sunday Night. Ensembles
indicate a stronger shortwave moving through the Great Lakes
sometime between late Monday Night and Tuesday, but timing and
spatial differences exist. In terms of temperature and moisture,
Sunday Night's front doesn't look to offer a notable decrease in
temperature or dew point as values will hold around or just above
climatological normals in the mid to upper 80s (some low 90s
possible) for highs and upper 60s/low 70s for lows.

The upper level low looks to finally lift out by the middle of next
week with some of the guidance hinting at a more progressive pattern
overall. Flow looks to turn more zonal but there still could be some
weak shortwaves moving through the area, bringing continued low-end
rain chances for the middle of the week (around 20-40%).

.AVIATION /19Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of today (through 00Z)...VFR. TSRA possible at KRDG/KABE. Will
use VCTS, as chances of a TSRA passing over a given terminal are
low. S winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to 20 kt. Moderate confidence.

Tonight (00Z through 12Z)...Generally VFR. There is the potential
for TSRA after 08Z, but confidence is low in any one storm passing
over a given terminal. Will not include TSRA mention in TAFs at this
time. Light S winds. Low confidence.

Friday (12Z through 00Z)...Potential for MVFR CIGs. Several rounds
of SHRA/TSRA, first in the morning, but likely in the afternoon and
evening. Sub-VFR likely. TSRA will result in heavy rain and gusty
winds. S winds 5 to 10 kt. Low confidence.

Friday night (00Z through 12Z)...Any convection tapers off from west
to east. Sub-VFR in fog and stratus. LGT/VRB winds. Low confidence.

Outlook...

Saturday...Primarily VFR though scattered afternoon showers and
thunderstorms may result in brief restrictions. Southerly winds
around 5-10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Saturday Night...sub-VFR conditions possible with overnight
showers/thunderstorms and patchy fog. South/Southeasterly winds
around 5 kt. Low confidence.

Sunday...sub-VFR conditions likely especially in the afternoon with
widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms. South/Southwest
winds around 10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Sunday Night...sub-VFR conditions likely with rain moving through
into the overnight hours. Southwest winds becoming northwesterly
with the passage of a cold front around 5-10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Monday through Monday Night...Primarily VFR. Small chance for
showers through Monday Night (15-30%) which could result in brief
restrictions. West/Southwest winds around 5-10 kt. Moderate
confidence.

Tuesday...sub-VFR conditions possible, mainly with afternoon showers
and thunderstorms. Southwest winds around 5-10 kt. Low confidence.

.MARINE...
Tonight...S winds 15 to 20 kt with occasional gusts to 25 kt. Do not
think the 25 kt gusts will be widespread enough nor frequent enough
to justify a Small Craft Advisory at this time. Seas will build to 3
to 4 ft, but may be close to 5 ft in some spots. There is a chance
for showers and thunderstorms late tonight that would reduce VSBYs
and result in gusty winds.

Friday...Sub-SCA conditions. S winds 15 to 20 kt. Seas 3 to 4 ft.
VSBY restrictions in showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain and
gusty winds.

Friday night...Sub-SCA conditions. S winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 4
ft. Lingering showers and thunderstorms, tapering off late. VSBY
restrictions in fog late.

Outlook...

Saturday through Sunday...No marine headlines anticipated. Southerly
winds around 10-15 kt with gusts nearing 20 kt. Seas 3 to 4 feet.
Periods of showers and thunderstorms especially on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday Night...No marine headlines anticipated. West/Northwest winds
around 5-10 kt. Seas 3 to 4 feet.

Monday through Tuesday...No marine headlines anticipated. Southerly
winds around 10-15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 3 to 4 feet.

Rip Currents...

For Thursday, a medium to long period southeasterly swell is
expected with breaking wave heights of 2 to 3 feet. A
southeasterly wind is forecast to increase in the afternoon to
15-20 knots creating a bit of a more onshore component to the
New Jersey beaches, and thus a MODERATE risk for the development
of dangerous rip currents for the New Jersey beaches while a
LOW risk continues at the Delaware beaches.

For Friday, a medium period southeasterly swell is expected to
continue with breaking wave heights increasing to 3 to 4 feet. A
southeasterly wind is forecast around 10-15 knots. There is a
MODERATE risk for the development of dangerous rip currents for
the New Jersey and Delaware beaches.

Tobyhanna, or near Mount Pocono, moving east at 35 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.
