8 miles southwest of Somerville, moving northeast at 30 mph.

.SYNOPSIS...
A deep upper low will build into south-central Canada and
several disturbances will rotate around the low bringing
humid and unsettled weather through this weekend. The upper
level low looks to finally pull away by the middle of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
After a fairly active night in northwest New Jersey and around
the Poconos, showers and thunderstorms have finally diminished
or at least lifted north of our region, likely in response to a
shortwave tracking northeastward out of our area. Another weaker
wave is pushing eastward across the Delmarva, only resulting in
some spotty showers. This is creating more in the way of just
mid-cloud, with likely a bit more in the way of convective
inhibition and less frontogenetic forcing throughout the lower
and middle atmosphere compared to farther north. Expect these
trends and generally quiet weather with just an isolated shower
or perhaps a stray thunderstorm through the late morning hours,
with most of our region staying dry. It is a much muggier
morning than the last few, with dewpoints in the low to mid 70s
outside of northern NJ and toward the Poconos, where dewpoints
are still in the mid 60s. The increased cloud cover and more
humid air will limit daytime heating somewhat compared to
Thursday, keeping high temperatures solidly 5 to 10 degrees
'cooler'.

Additionally, temperatures will likely be held back more at
times during shower and thunderstorm activity, which will be
more common over a larger portion of our region compared to
Thursday evening and overnight. Coverage and intensity in any
one area is very uncertain, with model guidance highly variable,
but generally activity may focus initially from I-95
northwestward, then gradually expand farther southeast. We will
likely see this activity develop around midday, and continue
through the early evening, before steadily diminishing through
sunset. With such a moist environment and precipitable water
values ranging from 1.5 inches toward the Poconos and 2.0 inches
around the Delmarva, we will have to be ready for heavy
rainfall rates. Storm motion should be fast enough to limit the
threat of significant flash flooding. On the other hand, with 25
to 30 kt of deep layer shear, substantial surface-based CAPE
around 2000 j/kg, any storms that get going will be capable of
producing sustained updrafts, and wind profiles do support the
potential of some training. In addition to the flash-flooding
threat, there is a marginal risk for severe weather according to
SPC, and that seems warranted given the shear and instability.
Forcing does not look particularly strong or focused, so that
storms may compete with each other for energy and limit any one
storm from becoming particularly strong. Additionally, lapse
rates and DCAPE are on the lower side, and that will limit the
wind damage potential. Still, any stronger storm will be capable
of at least some gusty winds and small hail. Shortwave forcing
will shift off the coast this evening, and with diminishing
daytime heating and instability, we should see a fairly quick
end to the activity, with a quieter night ahead compared to last
night. The exception might be right along the immediate coast,
where a couple stray showers or thunderstorms may linger.
Otherwise expect another warm and muggy night, with some
potential for a little fog where winds calm down following the
rain. Extensive clouds may limit the fog from becoming
widespread or too dense.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
Into Saturday, a strong closed upper low will oscillate around south-
central Canada and introduce an unsettled pattern across the eastern
half of the country. At least the first half of Saturday should be
mostly dry as subtle height rises continue ahead of an approaching
potent shortwave and surface low pressure which will inch closer
overnight Saturday night into Sunday morning. Still, weak
disturbances in the flow may result in some shower and thunderstorm
development Saturday afternoon which may ultimately focus along the
sea breeze. Continued southwest flow through most of the column will
maintain a tropical-like airmass; PWAT values will remain high and
WPC again has the region in a Marginal (1/5) risk for excessive
rainfall. Wouldn't rule out a few stronger thunderstorms if they can
develop as the global guidance favors 1000-1500 J/kg of taller
skinny CAPE with but less favorable shear. Expect that showers will
linger into the overnight hours as continued shortwave energy moves
through.Overnight lows look to remain a few degrees above average in
the low to mid 70s.

Sunday looks to be the more interesting and active day of the
weekend. PWATs will surge into the 2+ inch range, with dewpoints
getting into the mid 70s. An area of low pressure will slide by to
the west, with a cold front slowly approaching the region. Both
severe and hydro hazards remain on the table, but thinking the main
focus will be the potential for flash flooding. Storm motion vectors
show signs of slow moving and training convection, forecast
soundings indicate a long and skinny CAPE profile, deep layer flow
is unidirectionally southwesterly along the boundary, and it will
not take much for flooding to occur with the wet antecedent
conditions. Have continued the mention of heavy rain in the grids
from late Sunday morning into Sunday evening. WPC has introduced a
Slight Risk (2/5) for excessive rainfall in northern New Jersey and
maintained a Marginal Risk elsewhere for Sunday. On the severe side
of things, MLCAPE values look to be around 1000-1500 J/kg with
around 30 kt effective bulk shear which could support some organized
stronger storms. SPC has maintained the Marginal Risk (1/5) for
severe weather. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s for
most spots and dew points in the mid 70s with it feeling downright
tropical prior to the onset of showers and thunderstorms.

&&

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The aforementioned upper low will maintain an unsettled pattern
through early next week as it lifts eastward across eastern
Canada. However, there is a decent model consensus in support of
a break in the active weather around Monday, with perhaps just
isolated showers and thunderstorms at most. Ensembles indicate a
stronger shortwave moving through the Great Lakes sometime
between late Monday Night and Tuesday, but timing and spatial
differences exist. The pattern will remain a warm one, with
highs around 90 degrees most days into the middle of next week,
though the humidity may take a slight step back around Monday or
Tuesday as some 'drier' air tries to filter in from the west.

The upper level low looks to finally lift out by the middle of
next week with some of the guidance hinting at a more
progressive pattern overall. Flow looks to turn more zonal but
there still could be some weak shortwaves moving through the
area, bringing continued low-end shower/t-storm chances for the
middle of the week (around 20-40%).

.AVIATION /08Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

VFR conditions through this morning, though would not rule out
brief and localized MVFR VSBY in very isolated showers. Ceilings
may lower more extensively into the 050-070 range. By midday,
showers and thunderstorms will begin to pop up, with MVFR and
even brief IFR conditions likely as storms will be capable of
heavy downpours. Winds will be mainly light from the S/SW around
5-10 kt, but brief gusty and erratic winds are possible near any
stronger thunderstorm. Activity will diminish this evening,
while guidance suggests lowering ceilings possibly into the IFR
range along with patchy fog tonight. Low confidence.

Outlook...

Saturday...Primarily VFR though scattered afternoon showers and
thunderstorms may result in brief restrictions. Southerly winds
around 5-10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Saturday Night...sub-VFR conditions possible with overnight
showers/thunderstorms and patchy fog. South/Southeasterly winds
around 5 kt. Low confidence.

Sunday...Sub-VFR conditions especially in the late morning into
afternoon with widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms likely
(60-80%) some of which may be heavy at times. South/Southwest winds
around 10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Sunday Night...Sub-VFR conditions likely with rain moving through
into the overnight hours. Southwest winds around 5-10 kt becoming
northwesterly with the passage of a cold front. Moderate confidence.

Monday-Monday Night...Primarily VFR. Small chance for showers
through Monday Night (15-30%) which could result in brief
restrictions. West/Southwest winds around 5-10 kt. Moderate
confidence.

Rip Currents...

For Friday, 10 to 15 kt southerly flow shall be accompanied by
breaking wave heights of 2 to 3 ft for all locations except
Delaware beaches which will see breaking wave heights closer to
1 to 2 ft. Given these conditions along with a medium SSE/S
period swell, there is a MODERATE risk for the development of
dangerous rip currents for the New Jersey and Delaware beaches.

For Saturday, near 10 kt southerly flow shall be accompanied by
breaking wave heights of 2 to 3 ft for all locations except
Delaware beaches which will see breaking wave heights closer to
1 to 2 ft. Given these conditions along with a continued medium
SSE/S period swell, there is a MODERATE risk for the
development of dangerous rip currents for the New Jersey and
Delaware beaches.

Will continue to have to keep an eye on some localized coastal
flooding tonight with the next high tide, mainly limited to
localized areas around Barnegat Bay once again. Those areas saw
