.SYNOPSIS...
Hurricane Henri will move northward into southern New England
today. The storm is forecast to weaken as it moves to the
northeast along the coast of Maine on Monday, reaching Nova
Scotia on Tuesday. High pressure is expected to build into our
region from the west and south for much of the new week. A cold
front from the north is anticipated to arrive on Thursday night
or Friday morning. Another area of high pressure is expected to
build from Quebec into New England on Friday and Saturday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
915 AM...Quick update to mention that with 800 AM Intermediate
Advisory Henri was downgraded to a Tropical Storm. No changes
made to storm headlines at this time for NJ or adjacent coastal
waters but will be reevaluating for 11 AM update.
Henri is currently located roughly parallel (in terms of
latitude) with the northern NJ coast and will progress
northward into eastern LI/southern New England this morning into
the early afternoon. Meanwhile a closed mid-lvl low is
positioned just SW of our area and it is this feature, combined
with the mid-lvl ridge nosed over Northern New England, which is
driving Henri's track into the Northeast US. Additionally, as
highlighted in previous discussions, UL divergence and
associated synoptic ascent associated with the mid-lvl low/jet
structure is currently interacting with rich (PWATs > 2 inches)
moisture associated with Henri to produce areas of heavy
tropical rainfall over portions of NJ. Currently the axis of
heaviest rainfall (which has produced a swath of 3-6+ inch
totals so far) is located near central NJ as it is has been
slowly shifting northward and weakening. And it will continue to
slowly progress northward this morning as Henri's circulation
itself lifts northward.
The heavy rain threat will then shift to primarily the northern
third or so of our area this afternoon and evening, as the
heaviest precipitation associated with Henri's circulation will
pivot to the SW quadrant (where the best low-lvl convergence and
UL-divergence will be present). Amounts of 2-4 inches will be
possible particularly along and north of about I-78, with
amounts tapering off further south. However, with the mid-lvl
low (which will largely absorb Henri's mid-lvl circulation)
remaining overhead and abundant moisture, expect showery
precipitation to continue off and on over much of the area
through the day. We could even see some clearing and greater
destabilization over portions of Delmarva over the afternoon,
which may result in some stronger thunderstorms. That being said
given the lack of any appreciable flow and still fairly
tropical profiles (i.e. modest lapse rates, limited dry air)
think the severe threat is fairly low, but can not rule out a
few wet microbursts.
In terms of headlines... it is possible that given the current
track and wind-field of Henri our tropical warnings may be
dropped with late morning update and feel the odds of this area
actually seeing tropical storm force winds is fairly low. The
Flood Watch will remain in effect for the area, to encompass
both the morning threat and then the afternoon/evening threat
over the North... it is possible some southern counties can be
cleared from the Watch after the morning rainfall lifts north.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Whatever remains of Henri will move from New England to Nova
Scotia from Monday through Tuesday night. Very Warm and humid
high pressure is expected to build into our region from the west
and southwest in its wake.
Lingering showers with scattered thunder are forecast for
Monday. The last of the precipitation should move away to our
northeast on Monday night with no rain anticipated for Tuesday
and Tuesday night.
Highs are expected to be mainly in the 80s on Monday due to the
showers and cloud cover. Maximum temperatures should be near 90
in much of our region on Tuesday. Overnight lows will likely
favor the upper 60s and lower 70s.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Bermuda high pressure is forecast to gain control over our
weather for Wednesday and Thursday. High temperatures are
forecast to be in the lower and middle 90s in much of our region
with dew point values in the lower and middle 70s. Heat index
values may approach or slightly exceed 100 in spots, especially
on Thursday, so we may eventually need a Heat Advisory for parts
of our area.
The high levels of heat and humidity, along with a cold front
approaching from the northwest and north, will result in a
chance of showers and thunderstorms for Thursday afternoon and
Thursday evening.
The cold front is anticipated to arrive from late Thursday
night into Friday morning. The boundary should move rather
slowly through our region, so there is another chance for
showers and thunderstorms on Friday afternoon and evening.
High pressure is expected to build from Quebec into New England
from Friday into Saturday. Temperatures and humidity levels
will begin to decrease at that time.

.AVIATION /13Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Through 12Z...Showers with some embedded thunder will continue
to move through the terminals this morning, with the activity
gradually lifting northward. Flight categories will be
challenging with IFR visibilities/ceilings possible in stronger
showers, intermixed with periods of VFR conditions... however
feel that MVFR will be the dominant flight category. Winds
largely N-NW around 5kts.
Today... Prevailing conditions should eventually improve to VFR
by late morning into early this afternoon, however periodic
restrictions in showers will remain possible. Winds generally
W-NW around 10kts. Moderate confidence.
Tonight... Generally VFR, although can't rule out some
restrictions in fog particularly south and east of KPHL. Winds
W-SW around 5kts.
Outlook...
Monday...Periods of MVFR/IFR conditions are possible in showers
and scattered thunderstorms. Southwest to west wind 5 to 10
knots. Medium confidence.
Tuesday...Mainly VFR. Northwest to west wind 5 to 10 knots.
Medium confidence.
Wednesday...Mainly VFR. Southwest to south wind 5 to 10 knots.
Medium confidence.
Thursday...Early morning low clouds and visibility restrictions
are possible, then VFR with a chance of afternoon and evening
showers and thunderstorms. Southwest wind 5 to 10 knots. Medium
confidence.

.MARINE...
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the coastal waters
east of Monmouth County. A Small Craft Advisory remains in
effect for the rest of the ocean waters, with conditions
forecast to remain below advisory levels on the Delaware Bay.
Expect wind gusts largely in the 20-25kt range over most of the
ocean waters, with seas initially around 6-8 ft, dropping to
4-6ft by this afternoon. Winds and Seas could drop below SCA
criteria tonight, but some lingering gusts will be possible,
particularly over the northern waters.
Outlook...
Monday...A steady fetch from the south may cause wave heights
to build near 5 feet on our ocean waters.
Tuesday through Thursday...No marine headlines are anticipated.
Rip Currents...
Long period southeasterly swells continue to increase on the
coastal waters of New Jersey and Delaware as Henri continues its
approach to southern New England. Thus there is a High Risk of
dangerous, life-threatening rip currents on Sunday. Entering the
surf zone is strongly discouraged this weekend.
Medium period southeasterly swells combined with elevated seas
is expected to result in a High Risk of rip currents is expected
again on Monday for much of the New Jersey beaches with a
moderate risk expected for the Delaware Beaches. Conditions
should generally improve into next week as the storm weakens and
moves into the Gulf of Maine.

.HYDROLOGY...
Heavy rain will be a concern through at least tonight due to
the proximity of Henri and a midlevel low. Many risk factors for
heavy rain will exist in our region including precipitable
water values well above normal, slow storm motions, and a deep
warm- cloud layer. Additionally, portions of the region have wet
antecedent conditions from recent heavy rains.
The first heavy rainfall phase of the event is currently
underway and numerous flash flood warnings are in effect for
portions of New Jersey where 3-6+ inches of rain have fallen
(mostly since midnight), and this heavy rainfall will continue
(and gradually on the whole propagate northward) this morning.
The second period of heavy rainfall will be focused over the
northern third or so of the area (the Poconos and NW NJ) this
afternoon into this evening. A Flood Watch remains in effect for
most of the area through 12Z Monday, apart from southern
Delmarva.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Minor tidal flooding occurred along the coasts of New Jersey
and Delaware on Saturday evening in response to Hurricane Henri
passing to our east. Based on the expected track and speed of
the storm, the wind in our region should back around to the
northwest today. As a result, water will begin to get pushed
away from the coast. Only some lingering minor tidal flooding is
anticipated around the times of high tide today.

At 1037 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Seaford, or 12 miles east of Hurlock, moving southeast at 30 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.

Georgetown, Seaford, Millsboro, Laurel, Federalsburg, Selbyville,
