Area forecast discussion, Jun 1, 12:40 PM CDT, 1 hour 36 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Fort Worth TX 1240 PM CDT Tue Jun 1 2021 ...New Short Term, Aviation... .SHORT TERM... /NEW/ /Rest of Today through Wednesday/ A cold front continues to push through Central Texas this morning with a stratus deck overspreading the region behind the front. Dewpoints in our northwest have fallen into the upper 50s in a few spots as drier air infiltrates the region. Unfortunately the 50 dewpoints won't spread much farther south but it should feel a little drier across most of North and Central Texas this afternoon. For the most part, the region will remain precipitation-free this afternoon, but there remains low chances for isolated coverage of showers in our south and east counties. Today's dry period should allow water to continue to drain after yesterday's heavy rain event but river flooding will continue. We will maintain broad troughing aloft across the region through tomorrow with embedded weak disturbances fluttering across the region. At the surface, north to northwest winds at speeds around or less than 10 mph will keep us on the drier end of the precipitation spectrum tonight through tomorrow. However, we will still have to watch to our west and northwest tonight as another 1-2 complexes of rain/storms may approach from these areas. The suggested larger complex may move into or graze our southwestern counties around or after sunrise Wednesday morning. A second but smaller complex may approach our northwestern counties sometime in the morning hours. Both complexes are expected to be weakening, if they even sustain long enough to reach our area. Brief heavy rain and occasional lightning/thunder are the main threats. Due to uncertainty in these complexes reaching our CWA, have kept PoPs tomorrow morning below 50 percent and confined generally west of I-35/35W. For the remainder of tomorrow, I kept low rain chances areawide through the afternoon hours. If the complexes of storms materialize, they may leave remnant energy in the area that sweeps across the region within the westerly flow aloft. Some moisture still resides within the atmospheric layer that maybe enough for isolated showers tomorrow afternoon. Lapse rates and instability look too low for a thunder mention but an isolated occurrence is possible. Otherwise, afternoon temperatures today will be tempered mainly in the 70s due to the cloud cover and weak cold air advection. High temperatures will be warmer on Wednedsay in the mid 70s to lower 80s. JLDunn && .LONG TERM... /Issued 237 AM CDT Tue Jun 1 2021/ /Wednesday through Monday/ An upper ridge will amplify over the western states on Wednesday while a trough occupies the eastern half of the nation with the main trough axis extending southwestward from the Great lakes to Central Baja. This pattern will keep North and Central Texas on the unsettled eastern side of the trough. Therefore, scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible Wednesday with the best chances across Central Texas near a stalled cold front. The severe threat will be low due to weak shear and marginal instability. Storm chances will continue Wednesday night and Thursday as the cold front lifts slowly northward. It appears that the southwest zones will have the best moisture recovery and therefore we will maintain the highest PoPs there. The upper pattern across the region will remain somewhat stagnant as we head into the end of the week with the upper trough axis staying roughly oriented from the Ark-La-Tex to the Big Bend. Abundant low level moisture, moderate instability and persistent large scale lift will be enough for scattered thunderstorms with the best chances during the heat of the afternoon Friday. The models continue to indicate that a closed low at the base of the upper trough will deepen as it meanders east/northeast across Texas on the weekend, resulting in enhanced large scale lift and better thunderstorm chances. The best storm chances will still be during the afternoon and early evening both Saturday and Sunday. High precipitable water values and weak mid level flow will keep heavy rainfall as the primary weather threat. The upper low is progged to open up and lift northeast Sunday night and Monday while a short wave ridge builds in from the west. This pattern should move the best rain/storm chances to the eastern zones on Monday. Temperatures through early next week will remain below seasonal normals due to persistent upper level troughing, saturated ground and continued rain chances. Highs will likely remain in the upper 70s to the mid 80s Wednesday through Monday with lows generally in the 60s to around 70. 79 && .AVIATION... /NEW/ /18Z TAFs/ MVFR ceilings currently cover most of the region behind a cold front that is moving south through Central Texas. Ceilings have been slowly lifting and are expected to lift above 2 kft before 19Z. MVFR cigs will finally give way to VFR cigs later this afternoon and should eventually break up this evening. North to northwest winds at or below 10 kts will prevail. VFR conditions will persist through the night and into Wednesday, and then another cloud deck around 5 kft is expected to redevelop Wednesday afternoon. A complex of storms may be approaching from the west or southwest Wednesday morning, and it's possible some rain moves into the Waco area, but confidence is low at this time and no precipitation is mentioned in any of the TAF airports.
