UPDATE...
Continuing to monitor central GA for isolated severe storm
potential today with a lull in the rain for north GA.

SHORT TERM /Today through Wednesday/...

A warm front currently remains entrenched across far NE Georgia this
morning. Meanwhile, a cold front is moving across central
Mississippi. Do expect the warm front to finally push north of the
CWA this morning as the front approaches the state. The front is
expected to approach NW portions of the state around 12Z this morning
and move slowly south. The front should eventually become parallel
to the mid level flow and stall south of the Interstate 20 corridor.
Models continue to prog a low pressure wave developing across the
northern Gulf and moving east along the stalled boundary on
Wednesday.

Strong storms have developed out ahead of the cold front across
central Alabama. These storms will continue train into northern
portions of the CWA early this morning while dropping slowly south.
Parameters remain favorable for strong storms, including rotating
thunderstorms capable of producing a tornado. MUCAPE values between
500-1000 J/KG are present along and ahead of the current line, while
the 0-6km shear values range 60-70kt. In addition, there is some
support in the 250mb range with a 90kt jet streak. The main area of
concern is across portions of NW Georgia this morning, closest to
the instability and forcing. Any threat for stronger storms will
shift southward later this morning and early afternoon across
southern portions of the CWA ahead of the cold front. Main hazards
from severe storms today will be damaging wind gusts, especially
within any bowing segments. However, a few tornadoes are possible,
especially during the early half of the day when the shear is
strongest. Locally heavy rainfall will also be possible.

LONG TERM /Wednesday Night through Monday/...

Rain will be exiting at the start of the period as a cold front
clears the area to the east. A brief window will exist late
Wednesday night/early Thursday morning where perhaps a few light
snow showers could be mustered in the northeast Georgia mountains.
With very limited moisture, accumulations are not a concern at
this point.

High pressure will build into the area for Thursday. Temperatures
will dip several degrees below normal with highs ranging from the
40s north to mid 50s south. After a cold Friday morning,
temperatures will begin a quick rebound as the surface high shifts
eastward and southerly flow returns. As such, temperatures will
return back to normal by Friday and Saturday. Saturday appears
largely dry at this point, but this will quickly change overnight
and into Sunday morning as low pressure quickly moves into the Ohio
Valley and drags a cold front into the area. Some timing
discrepancies remain with the GFS representing a faster solution,
but Sunday will be on the wet side. Thunder was not added at this
point given low confidence on much in the way of instability. Drier
conditions should return by early next week behind this system.

Mainly VFR clouds and ceilings to start with potential for
MVFR-IFR ceilings developing overnight and Wednesday along
with MVFR vsbys for mainly central GA. Surface winds WNW less
than 10 kts becoming light and variable overnight and then NE-SE
Wednesday and WNW late over the far western area. Best chance for
thunderstorms favoring central GA on Wednesday but possible for N
GA.

...SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR NORTHERN LAURENS COUNTY UNTIL
1230 PM EST...

At 1201 PM EST...a strong thunderstorm was near Chappells Mill, or 9
miles northwest of Dublin...moving east at 35 mph.

  HAZARD...Up to 40 mph wind...frequent cloud to ground lightning
           and heavy rain.

  IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
           light...unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
           street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.

Some locations in the path of this storm include
Dublin, East Dublin, Dudley, Montrose, Lovett, Chappells Mill,
Tuckers Crossroad and Brewton.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear
thunder...you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Motorists
should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of control due to
hydroplaning.
