.SYNOPSIS...
A strong cold front pushed through the region overnight. A
surface low pressure moves off the Outer Banks today as an upper
level low moves over the region. High pressure builds in from
the northwest tonight into Sunday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 415 AM EDT Friday...

Surface analysis depicts a strong cold front has moved through the
FA overnight. This front has scoured any remaining instability with
just scattered light rain remaining, generally in the piedmont and
southern portions of the CWA this morning. An upper level low is
centered along the NC/TN border with a surface low over the Outer
Banks. This surface low will continue to move east through the day,
providing a chance for more rain and even a rain/snow mix through
the morning where heavier bands set up. Any snow would be rate-
dependent with surface temps only dropping into the mid 30s during
these heavier bands. Any accumulation will be purely rate driven,
with a coating of snow possible on grassy and elevated surfaces. Any
snow accumulation should melt quickly once precipitation ends as
surface temps and air temps remain above freezing. Rain and snow is
expected to end by late morning with just light rain possible into
the early afternoon for the SE.

A NNE wind behind the cold front will increase through the morning
and remain elevated through the afternoon with gusts up to 45-55 mph
along the coast, 35-40 mph along the western shore of the Bay, and
25-35 mph farther inland. A wind advisory remains in effect for the
Atlantic coast of the Eastern Shore as well as coastal SE VA/NE NC.
Due to the combination of gusty winds and ongoing precip, brief
reductions in visibility will be possible with any snow that is able
to make it to the ground.

Skies quickly clear by early afternoon from west to east as the dry
air takes over with mostly sunny skies for everyone except the far
SE by the afternoon. Sunshine will help temps rebound some, but the
extent to which is still unclear. For now, expect highs in the mid
to upper 40s.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 415 AM EDT Friday...

High pressure moves into the region Fri night into Sat and remains
over the region through Sun before moving off the NE coast late Sun
into Mon. The result will be dry weather through the weekend. Lows
Fri night will be much cooler with upper 27 NW and mid 30s SE. Lows
Sat night also cool in the low 30s for most and upper 30s to around
40 near the coast in the far SE. A warming trend will take place
this weekend as well with highs in the low to mid 50s Sat and
in the upper 50s to low 60s Sun.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 430 AM EDT Friday...

A coastal trough may provide a few showers to the SE Sun night into
Mon, but there is low confidence with regards to how much (if any)
precip makes it inland. Dry Tues with another low confidence light
rain chance Tues night into Wed. Rain chances increase Thurs into
Fri as an area of low pressure is expected to develop in the Deep
South and move north. There will be a general warming trend through
the week with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s Mon, low to mid 60s
Tues, mid to upper 60s Wed, upper 60s to low 70s Thurs, and low 70s
(mid to upper 60s over the Eastern Shore) Fri. Lows will also
continue a warming trend with mid 30s W to the mid 40s E Sun night,
40s Mon and Tues nights, upper 40s to low 50s Wed night, and low 50s
Thurs night.

.AVIATION /11Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 715 AM EDT Friday...

CAA will continue through the afternoon behind a cold front
which passed overnight. Meanwhile an upper level low tracks
across the region through the day. A mixture of IFR/MVFR CIGs
(~500-1200 ft) will linger through the morning. Winds are
becoming gusty with NNE winds 15-20 kt and gusts 30-35 kt near
the coast observed. Winds will continue to pick up, especially
near the coast, with sustained winds 20-25 kt with gusts 30-35
kt at ORF/PHF/ECG this morning through the afternoon. RIC and
SBY will be slightly less gusty with 18-20 kt sustained and
gusts to 30 kt. Strongest winds will be in the morning. A round
of rain, transitioning to a rain/snow mix is likely in the
morning before quickly tapering off by early afternoon. Any mix
with snow will be more likely inland and less likely closer to
the coast, but cannot totally rule it out at ORF/ECG for a brief
period. CIGs could drop to IFR with this band of precip. Skies
clear by the afternoon with VFR conditions expected to return.

OUTLOOK...
High pressure builds into the area from the north Fri night into
Sun. Low pressure is progged to linger off the southeast and
Mid Atlc coast early next week.

.MARINE...
As of 430 AM EDT Friday...

Gale Warnings in effect for all marine zones today, lingering
through tonight/early Sat morning for the coastal waters (did
make some minor adjustments to the end times mainly to end
them bit sooner over the upper Rivers and northern Bay). Winds
are currently NE at 15-25 kt, with the tightening pressure
gradient and CAA that will arrive ~12Z resulting in wind speeds
increasing and remaining strong throughout the day. N/NE winds
25-35 kts with gusts of 35-45 kts expected, with the strongest
winds over the coastal waters. Waves in the bay will build to
4-7 ft and seas build to 9-13 ft N (by the aftn) and to 10-15ft
S (by tonight).

Gale conditions subside by Saturday morning however strong high
pressure to the north and a low developing off the coast of
Florida will keep near SCA winds and elevated seas through at
least the end of the weekend and possibly into early next week
as the low lingers off the SE coast.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 430 AM EDT Friday...

Have raised a Coastal Flood Warning for the NC Outer Banks for
the next 2 high tides (this aftn and again early Sat morning).
Elsewhere, have opted to raise a Coastal flood Advisory for the
upcoming high tide where water levels should remain in minor
flood levels (late this morning into the aftn).  For the most
part, most locations in the lower Bay/James and adjacent to the
Atlantic coastal waters from Northampton Co VA on south are
expected to reach well into minor flood thresholds with some
potential for moderate flooding remaining with the 2nd high tide
late tonight/Sat morning and therefore have maintained the
Coastal Flood Watch for that period tonight into Sat morning.

There is some potential for the water to get trapped in the Bay
and spread N to the mid/upper Bay by late Sat morning/aftn so
additional Coastal Flood Advisories may be needed farther to the
north of the current headlines. The chance for moderate
flooding appears very limited at this time in these areas so
did not extend the Coastal Flood Watch to the north and will
allow later shifts to add advisories as needed.

In addition, large breaking waves will likely result in beach
