.SYNOPSIS FOR ARCTIC COAST...
A 1022 MB low 150 NM SW of Banks Island will move S. A front
associated with the low will move SE across the Eastern Arctic
Coast Sat night. A 1058 mb high will move into the Northwest 
Arctic by Sun morning and a 1048 mb high will develop over the
Arctic Plain. The high will move to 200 nm N of Utqiagvik by Mon
morning at 1061 mb.

.SYNOPSIS...
Very similar to earlier in the week, snow is occuring over the
Interior this morning and will continue into the day today. Total
snow accumulations of 2-3 inches can be expected from Nenana to
Fairbanks to Delta Junction. South of Nenana, 4-7 inches can be
expected. Light snow is occurring over the Arctic Coast as well
this morning that should taper off by this evening. Winds will
increase for the Eastern Arctic coast and Interior summits today,
thus the increasing threat of reduced visibility due to blowing
snow and wind chills. Some of the coldest temperatures of the year
are on the horizon for next week.

.DISCUSSION...

Models...
Models have a good handle of today and Sunday with a dissipating
low over the Seward Peninsula, a surface low over the Eastern
Beaufort Sea, and a deepening Arctic high that will get closer to
the Arctic Coast early next week. Looking ahead, a front will
enter the Bering Sea on Sunday. Right now, the GFS is the slowest
solution. The earlier run of the NAM was the fastest, but seems to
be more in line with the Canadian and GFS models. Went with the
GFS for the end of the forecast period.

Aloft...
A deep trough of low pressure will dive south over the upper Yukon
Territory this weekend as another upper level ridge will enter SW
Alaska. Upper levels are in fairly decent agreement through the
weekend.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Snow for much of the Interior today with greater accumulations
nearest the Alaska Range. Winds will increase over Interior
summits and the Alaska Range today. Blowing snow and visibility
of one half mile or less at times can be expected in those areas.
Very cold wind chills will also return for places north and east
of Fairbanks in the higher elevations.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Snow is occurring in places along the West Coast and Western
Interior this morning. This will taper off into the day today.
Strongest winds at the moment are through the Bering Strait. This
will also decrease into the day today until the next system
arrives on Sunday, where winds will begin to increase for St.
Lawrence Island

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...
Wind chill values continue to be very cold east of Utqiagvik.
Clouds and light snow will bring temporary relief from the cold
today. Winds will increase for the Eastern Arctic today which
will create blowing snow and reduced visibility. A return of very
cold temperatures for next week, with another round of very cold
Wind Chill expected for the coastal areas.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended Forecast For Days 4 to 7...
Generally clear and cold all week. Stratus will impact temperatures
if it develops over the Interior.
