* Minor flooding is occurring, and moderate flooding is forecast to
develop.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* The river will continue rising, reaching near 14.8 feet by Monday
evening. Additional rises may be possible thereafter.
* At 13 feet, minor flooding of the lowlands adjacent to the river
continues to expand. Flooding of the nearby park and parking lot at
the Abbeville boat ramp also expands.
At 14 feet, moderate flooding begins. Roads to homes along the west
side of the river in Abbeville become inaccessible.

* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage by early Thursday
and continue rising, reaching to near 21.9 feet by Friday evening.
* At 16 feet, bankfull conditions occur along the river. The Old Balls
Ferry Road boat ramp, just upstream and right bank from the Georgia
Highway 57 bridge will be flooded.
At 17 feet, flood stage is reached. The water level reaches the top
of the Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp, just upstream and rightbank
from the Georgia Highway 57 bridge. Minor flooding of woodlands near
the river occurs.
At 19 feet, the water level begins to flood the dirt parking lot
area near the Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp, just upstream and
rightbank from the Georgia Highway 57 bridge. Minor flooding
continues to spread further into the woodlands near the river.
At 21 feet, moderate flooding begins. The dirt parking lot by the
Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp is under one to three feet of water
and the end of Old Balls Ferry Road begins to flood. Flooding
continues to spread further into the woodlands near the river.

* At 845 PM Wednesday the stage was 16.2 feet, and rising.
* Moderate flooding is forecast to develop.
* Flood stage is 21 feet.
* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage by Friday evening
and continue rising, reaching near 26.5 feet by early Monday
morning.
* At 20 feet, bankfull conditions occur along the river upstream and
downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 80. Water begins to spill
out into the flood plain.
At 21 feet, flood stage is reached with minor flooding in the
woodlands and natural flood plain along the river upstream and
downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 80.
At 23 feet, minor flooding continues in the woodlands and natural
flood plain along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on
U.S. Highway 80. Flooding will increase on some dirt river access
roads with the water level at least one foot deep in some sections
of the roads.
At 25 feet, moderate flooding begins with significant flooding
in the woodlands and agricultural areas upstream and downstream from
the gage on U.S. Highway 80. The flood waters will be around two
feet deep on Rex Miller Road, downstream and left bank of the
Highway 80 bridge, and on Old River Lane, upstream and left bank
from the bridge. Some of the homes on these roads will begin to
experience flooding.

* At 23 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand. Large portions
of the Macon GreenWay Ocmulgee Heritage Trail floods north of the
Martin Luther King Boulevard bridge. The flood waters will be up to
3 feet deep on portions of the trail. Large portions of
agricultural lands east of Macon and well downstream will be under
1 to 5 feet of water.

* Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue.
* Flood stage is 16 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 16.8 feet by Friday
morning then begin falling.
* At 19 feet...Minor flooding expands further into the woodlands
and pastures upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway
280. The boat ramp parking lot is flooded out on the Wheeler County
side of the river. More homes on Dead River Road in the south part
of Montgomery County become surrounded with water. Some flooding
inside the structures is possible. Some portions of Dead River Road
are covered by at least a foot of water.

* At 27 feet...Minor flooding continues in the woodlands and
pasture upstream and downstream from the gage located around one
half mile upstream from the Georgia Highway 22 and 24 bridge. The
parking lot and the Oconee River Greenway Park just downstream from
the bridge will be completely flooded with water several feet deep.
Sinclair Dam will have three to four gates open to reach this
height.

dozen homes on Dead River Road in the south end of Montgomery
County become surrounded with water. A few homes will have some
flooding. Portions of Dead River Road will be covered by at least

* The river will continue rising, reaching near 19.9 feet by
Wednesday evening, then begin falling.
* At 17 feet, minor flooding continues in the woodlands and pastures
upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280. Some
homes on Dead River Road in the south end of Montgomery County
become surrounded by water and water begins to cover lower portions
of Dead River Road.
At 18 feet, minor flooding expands in the woodlands and pastures
upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280. A
campground and a few out buildings begin to flood several miles
south of Mount Vernon. Eleven homes in the Cherokee Sand Ridge
subdivision are surrounded by water and Dead River Road becomes
flooded and is closed.
At 19 feet, minor flooding expands further into the woodlands and
pastures upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280.
The boat ramp parking lot is flooded out on the Wheeler County side
of the river. More homes on Dead River Road in the south part of
Montgomery County become surrounded with water and some flooding
inside the structures is possible. Some portions of Dead River Road
are covered by at least a foot of water.

The river will fall below flood stage Sunday evening.
* At 19 feet...Minor flooding expands further into the woodlands
and pastures upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway
280. The boat ramp parking lot is flooded out on the Wheeler County
side of the river. More homes on Dead River Road in the south part
of Montgomery County become surrounded with water. Some flooding
inside the structures is possible. Some portions of Dead River Road
are covered by at least a foot of water.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 247 PM EST Wed Mar 4 2020 .SHORT TERM /Tonight through Thursday Night/... Rain will continue across the area through Thursday afternoon/evening...Then we finally get a break. Current mosaic radar loop shows showers and thunderstorms extending from the TX/NW border to the Carolinas. Also there is a closes low developing along the TX gulf coast and it will move east along the coast through tonight. This low will pull all this moisture eastward with it allowing a high pressure center to build south out of the central plains behind it. This ridge is what will shut the rain off for the weekend. The closed low center will be centered over the Northern by 18z and push off the GA/FL/SC coast by 009z Friday. Drier air begins to push into N GA Thu evening with things clearing out across the entire state by Friday morning. With the main low centered expected to stay south of our CWA the best instabilities are also expected to stay south. We will see some isolated storms tonight and Thursday but not expecting much in the way of strong to severe storms. This is right in line with SPC keeping the slight risk area across South GA through Thu night. Temps Tonight and Thu night expected to stay mainly in the 40s. Highs expected in the 50s Thu. 01 && .LONG TERM /Friday through Wednesday/... Relief from the rain is on the horizon! The long term period kicks off on Friday morning with northwest flow aloft across the eastern U.S. with upper-level ridging and surface high pressure settling in across the Southeast on Saturday and Sunday. This will lead to dry conditions and temperatures (especially lows) across the CWA around 5-10 degrees below average through the weekend. The next chance for rain will come with a low pressure system and attendant cold front approaching from the west on Monday evening/overnight, though there are model discrepancies in terms of timing. The GFS is faster in bringing rain to north Georgia (with rain progged to reach northwest Georgia as early as Monday night) with the main axis of rain meandering across north Georgia into Tuesday. The ECMWF, on the other hand, is currently a good 6 hours slower in bringing the rain in. While there is still uncertainty in terms of storm potential, will have to keep an eye on Tuesday and Wednesday, as the GFS is hinting at marginal instability across portions of the CWA. The chance for rain showers will remain in the forecast on Wednesday as the cold front sinks into Georgia. After this cooler-than-normal weekend, temperatures will climb back to around 5-15 degrees above average (with highs in the 60s and 70s, and lows in the 40s and 50s) for the first half of next week.
