The Chattahoochee River near Columbus.
* From Thursday morning until Saturday morning.
* At 9 AM Wednesday the stage was 25.6 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 27 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by late Thursday morning and
continue to rise to near 28.6 feet by early Friday morning. The
river will fall below flood stage by Saturday morning.
* At 28 feet...Minor flooding continues along the river upstream
and downstream from the gage on the 14th Street bridge. Portions of
the River Walk in Columbus will be flooded around one foot deep and
closed to the public. The Phenix City Amphitheater on the Alabama
side will begin to flood.

* At 9 AM Wednesday the stage was 9.7 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by late Thursday morning and
continue to rise to near 14.2 feet by early Friday morning. The
river will fall below flood stage by Saturday before midnight.
* At 14 feet...Minor flooding expands into the woodlands...fields
and pasture upstream and downstream from the gage on Georgia
Highway 16 or Newnan Road. The backyards of homes at the end of
Landing Way upstream from the bridge will be flooded with around
one foot of water.

* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 18 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by after midnight tonight and
continue to rise to near 24.3 feet by Thursday evening.
* At 24 feet...Minor flooding expands further into the woodlands
and fields along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on
U.S. Highway 19. The flood waters will be up to 6 feet deep over
the top of the boat ramp and cover a portion of the access road by
the bridge on the Taylor County side of the river.

* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 21 feet.
* Forecast to begin rising later today, and is expected to
rise above flood stage by Saturday morning, and continue rising
to near 23.3 by late Sunday. Additional rises are
expected thereafter.
* At 25.5 feet...Significant flooding continues in the woodlands and
agricutural areas upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S.
Highway 80. The flood waters will be around two feet deep on Rex
Miller Road...downstream left bank of the Highway 80 bridge and Old
River Lane...upstream and left bank from the bridge. Some of the
homes on these roads will begin to experience flooding. Also a few
homes begin to flood on River Ridge Road...downstream and right
bank from the U.S. Highway 80 bridge.

* Minor flooding will continue.

* TThe river will fall to a stage of 16 feet by Thursday morning.
The river will remain between 15.7 and 16.2 feet through Monday. Additional
rises are possible thereafter.
* At 16 feet...Flood Stage is reached. Minor flooding begins in the
woodlands...pastures and natural flood plain along the river
upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280. Flood
waters reach the top of a boat ramp by the bridge on the Wheeler
County side of the River.

* The river will continue rising, reaching near 14.8 feet by Monday
evening. Additional rises may be possible thereafter.
* At 13 feet, minor flooding of the lowlands adjacent to the river
continues to expand. Flooding of the nearby park and parking lot at
the Abbeville boat ramp also expands.
At 14 feet, moderate flooding begins. Roads to homes along the west
side of the river in Abbeville become inaccessible.

* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage by early Thursday
and continue rising, reaching to near 21.9 feet by Friday evening.
* At 16 feet, bankfull conditions occur along the river. The Old Balls
Ferry Road boat ramp, just upstream and right bank from the Georgia
Highway 57 bridge will be flooded.
At 17 feet, flood stage is reached. The water level reaches the top
of the Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp, just upstream and rightbank
from the Georgia Highway 57 bridge. Minor flooding of woodlands near
the river occurs.
At 19 feet, the water level begins to flood the dirt parking lot
area near the Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp, just upstream and
rightbank from the Georgia Highway 57 bridge. Minor flooding
continues to spread further into the woodlands near the river.
At 21 feet, moderate flooding begins. The dirt parking lot by the
Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp is under one to three feet of water
and the end of Old Balls Ferry Road begins to flood. Flooding
continues to spread further into the woodlands near the river.

and continue rising, reaching near 26.5 feet by early Monday
morning.
* At 20 feet, bankfull conditions occur along the river upstream and
downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 80. Water begins to spill
out into the flood plain.
At 21 feet, flood stage is reached with minor flooding in the
woodlands and natural flood plain along the river upstream and
downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 80.
At 23 feet, minor flooding continues in the woodlands and natural
flood plain along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on
U.S. Highway 80. Flooding will increase on some dirt river access
roads with the water level at least one foot deep in some sections
of the roads.
At 25 feet, moderate flooding begins with significant flooding
in the woodlands and agricultural areas upstream and downstream from
the gage on U.S. Highway 80. The flood waters will be around two
feet deep on Rex Miller Road, downstream and left bank of the
Highway 80 bridge, and on Old River Lane, upstream and left bank
from the bridge. Some of the homes on these roads will begin to
experience flooding.

Martin Luther King Boulevard bridge. The flood waters will be up to
3 feet deep on portions of the trail. Large portions of
agricultural lands east of Macon and well downstream will be under
1 to 5 feet of water.

Water overflows into the broad swampy flood plain. Farm fields on
the right bank flood. General agriculture and timber interests are
affected by the flooding. In addition...water reaches the top of
the boat ramp near the Highway 341 bridge.

ramp is under three to five feet of water. Extensive flooding of
the woodlands near the river continues.

Sinclair Dam will have three to four gates open to reach this
height.

upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280. Some

become surrounded by water and water begins to cover lower portions
of Dead River Road.
At 18 feet, minor flooding expands in the woodlands and pastures
upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280. A
campground and a few out buildings begin to flood several miles
south of Mount Vernon. Eleven homes in the Cherokee Sand Ridge
subdivision are surrounded by water and Dead River Road becomes
flooded and is closed.
At 19 feet, minor flooding expands further into the woodlands and
pastures upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280.
The boat ramp parking lot is flooded out on the Wheeler County side
of the river. More homes on Dead River Road in the south part of
Montgomery County become surrounded with water and some flooding
inside the structures is possible. Some portions of Dead River Road
are covered by at least a foot of water.

* At 3 PM Monday the stage was 17.9 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is forecast to
continue.
* Flood stage is 16 feet.
* The river will continue rising, reaching near 19.9 feet by
Wednesday evening, then begin falling.
* At 18 feet, minor flooding expands in the woodlands and pastures
upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280. A
campground and a few out buildings begin to flood several miles
south of Mount Vernon. Eleven homes in the Cherokee Sand Ridge
subdivision are surrounded by water and Dead River Road becomes
flooded and is closed.
At 19 feet, minor flooding expands further into the woodlands and
pastures upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280.
The boat ramp parking lot is flooded out on the Wheeler County side
of the river. More homes on Dead River Road in the south part of
Montgomery County become surrounded with water with some flooding
inside the structures possible. Some portions of Dead River Road are
covered by at least a foot of water.

* The river will continue rising to near 19.6 feet by tomorrow early
afternoon then begin falling.
* At 20.0 feet...Moderate flooding begins. Significant flooding
occurs in the woodlands and pastures upstream and downstream from
the gage on U.S. Highway 280. The access road to the boat ramp on
the Wheeler County side of the river begins to flood. Around a
dozen homes on Dead River Road in the south end of Montgomery
County become surrounded with water. A few homes will have some
flooding. Portions of Dead River Road will be covered by at least
two feet of water.

Widespread fog and patches of dense fog remain in place across central Georgia, primarily along and south of a line from Newnan to Covington to Washington, and is expected to dissipate by mid- morning. Precipitation has begun to build into the forecast area from the south and west, and is still expected to become widespread and increase in intensity through the day today. With high stream flows and already saturated soils, runoff from this additional rain will lead to a greater threat for flooding concerns. Some isolated thunderstorms are also expected this afternoon, primarily across central Georgia. There is a chance that a few storms could become strong to marginally severe in portions of our far southern tier, with damaging wind gusts being the primary threat. Updated for the 12Z Aviation Discussion. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 327 AM EST Wed Mar 4 2020/ SHORT TERM /Today through Thursday/... Another relative break in precipitation is ongoing as the short term period begins. A band of light showers is ongoing across the I-20 corridor due to an axis of convergence at the mid levels. However, rainfall totals associated with this band are negligible and are anticipated to be less than a tenth of an inch. South of this band of showers, clearing skies, light winds, and wet soils from recent rainfall is allowing for the development of patchy fog, which is expected to linger into the mid-morning today. Continued southwesterly flow aloft over much of the southeastern CONUS is keeping conditions warm and moist. Dewpoints ranging from the upper 40s in north Georgia to the low 60s in central Georgia and and precipitable water values between 1 and 1.25 inches are in place across north and central Georgia as a result of this moisture. Low temperatures in the upper 40s and 50s this morning will only increase to the upper 50s to low 60s this afternoon. The break in precipitation is expected to be short-lived. An upper level shortwave and associated surface low moving northeastward over the Gulf Coast today will help reinforce the frontal boundary stalled across south Georgia, ultimately bringing another round of heavy rain to the area during the daytime today. Likely to categorical PoPs will spread northward into central Georgia early this morning and develop northward throughout the day today. The heaviest rainfall today is expected across central Georgia, with an additional 1-2 inches of rainfall south of I-20 and progressively diminishing amounts further north. Strong isentropic lift ahead of the approaching shortwave disturbance is expected to promote a shield of widespread precipitation over central Georgia on Wednesday night before lifting northward and focusing over north Georgia through Thursday morning. The low pressure system will then shift east of the forecast area during the afternoon on Thursday, leading to precipitation to diminish from west to east at the end of the short term period. Another 1-1.5 inches of rainfall is expected south of I-20 on Thursday, bringing expected rainfall totals to between 2 to 3.5 inches south of I-20 with diminishing chances further north. Due to the additional rainfall forecast over these two days, the Flash Flood Watch continues for portions of north and central Georgia beginning this morning and continuing through Thursday afternoon. The long term period starts on Thursday evening with the majority of the rain exiting the CWA by Friday morning as the parent surface low moves off the northeastern US seaboard. As the system exits the off the coast, a surface high should sink into the SE with upper level ridging and NW flow aloft providing dry and sunny conditions through Sunday. Being the bearer of bad news, southwesterly flow returns on Monday ahead of the next approaching system. There are currently model discrepancies between the GFS and ECMWF in regards to early next week's system with the ECMWF having a faster and more progressive system as compared to the GFS. Regardless, PWATS remain above seasonal normals with rain chances returning for early next week and through the rest of the extended forecast.
