Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across the area
prior to dawn as a warm front slowly moves north from south MS.
Where storms occur, lowerings of ceiling and visibility to IFR can
be expected. Otherwise, MVFR/IFR ceilings will become widespread
prior to dawn then slowly rise through the morning, becoming
mostly VFR during the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will
once again increase from the west by late afternoon into the
evening as ceilings lower to MVFR. Southeast winds will increase
toward sunrise with sustained 15 to 25 knots by mid morning with
gusts increasing to 25 to 35 knots by afternoon./GG/

.DISCUSSION...
Showers and thunderstorms continue across portions of the area as
a warm front makes slow northward progression ahead of a potent
storm system taking shape over the Southern Plains. These showers
and storms will linger through the overnight hours, but coverage
will gradually become confined further north. Temperatures will
either remain steady or warm a degree or two behind the warm
frontal passage with the coolest overnight lows along the Hwy 82
corridor north of the boundary. A severe weather outbreak is still
expected tomorrow afternoon through early Sunday morning in
association with the aforementioned storm system, see the previous
discussion below for more details. /TW/

Prior discussion below:

Tonight through Saturday night: An outbreak of severe weather is
expected for the ArkLaMiss region beginning mid/late afternoon
Saturday and going through much of Saturday night. In the
meantime, storms are expected to develop late this afternoon into
the early evening along a stalled frontal boundary over
southern/eastern portions of the ArkLaMiss in response to the next
strong shortwave trough. Strong deep layer shear and increasing
convective instability will support a few robust updrafts capable
of producing large hail and a marginal risk continues for this
potential.

Later tonight into early Saturday, expect the best lift to
refocus farther west of the ArkLaMiss in region of very impressive
split upper jet dynamics and strong pressure falls/surface
cyclogenesis, and this will result in a lull in storm chances for
most of the area that will continue until early afternoon. It
should be noted that there is increasing concern for strengthening
gradient sfc winds during the late morning/aftn and it is
possible we could eventually need a wind advisory for portions of
the area.

Later in the day, an uncommon combination of very unstable air
and strong wind shear is expected to support an outbreak of severe
thunderstorms with the potential for strong tornadoes, especially
for locations along/west of the MS River during the mid/late
afternoon into the early evening hours. There are some significant
disagreements among CAM guidance in where initial best deep
convection will develop over northern LA/southern AR given more
subtle focusing mechanisms, and our confidence is not especially
high with this, but there is good agreement that strong pressure
falls in the warm sector should support discrete storms in the
general vicinity of the Delta region with shear profiles favoring
supercells. During the evening, storms will eventually evolve into
a more linear convective mode, and a severe weather probabilities
will remain high as the LCS moves east, although the threat for
significant severe weather will diminish some overnight. Have
maintained the moderate risk and expanded the enhanced severe risk
farther east per latest SPC.

Flash flooding continues to be a concern with very intense
rainfall rates possibly supporting rainfall of a few inches in a
short time, and this especially appears to be the case over the
Delta region if initial activity develops sooner rather than
later. Later in the evening, as convective becomes more linear, we
expect activity to become more progressive, but a quick one to
two inches of rainfall will still be possible. Overall, have kept
the flood potential graphic going as previous, with an elevated
threat for western portions of the ArkLaMiss. /EC/

Sunday through Wednesday: The severe/flood threat will end early
Sunday morning as the cold front shifts east of Mississippi.
Cooler and much drier air will filter into our region in the wake
of the front. Highs Sunday will be held in the 60s at most
locations. Coldest morning of the period is expected Monday
morning with lows in the low to mid 40s. A surface high will
become centered over our CWA Monday while shortwave ridging aloft
moves over our region. This will allow for a decent warm up and
the start of a warming trend going into the middle of the week.
Ridging surface and aloft will shift east Tuesday ahead of another
shortwave trough dropping over the Plains from the northwest.
Models differ on timing and evolution of this next low pressure
system with the GFS depicting a closed low and the ECMWF
maintaining an open wave. Consensus suggests rain chances will
return to our CWA Wednesday and increase into Thursday. There
remains the potential for additional heavy rainfall and a few
strong to severe storms with this system but wl refrain from
introducing anything in the HWO until better agreement occur in
later model runs. /22/

JEFFERSON...NORTHERN FRANKLIN AND ADAMS COUNTIES UNTIL 1115 PM CDT...

At 1033 PM CDT, Meteorologists were tracking a strong thunderstorm
over Sibley, or 11 miles south of Natchez, moving northeast at 60
mph.

Nickel size hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with
this storm.

This strong thunderstorm will be near...
  Kingston around 1040 PM CDT.
  Cranfield around 1050 PM CDT.
  Stanton around 1055 PM CDT.
  Hamburg and Stampley around 1100 PM CDT.
  Fayette and Mcnair around 1105 PM CDT.
  Red Lick around 1115 PM CDT.

Other locations impacted by this storm include Roxie and Ridgecrest.
