...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 715 PM MDT FOR 
THE SPRING FIRE BURN SCAR IN SOUTHWESTERN HUERFANO AND NORTHEASTERN 
COSTILLA COUNTIES...

At 452 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy 
rain across the warned area. Radar estimates that 0.50 to 0.70 
inches of rain has fallen across northern parts of the burn scar 
including parts of the Pass Creek, Sangre de Cristo Creek, and 
Abeyta Creek drainages.  Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly 
if it is not already ongoing.

Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will result in flash flooding 
and debris flows moving through the Pass Creek, Abeyta Creek, Sangre 
de Cristo Creek, Wagon Creek, Middle Creek, Oak Creek, and Indian 
Creek drainages.  Many other drainages across the burn scar will 
also be impacted.  Debris flows can consist of rock, mud, vegetation 
and other loose materials.

Some locations that may experience flooding include...
La Veta and La Veta Pass. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

Move away from recently burned areas. Life-threatening flooding of
creeks, roads and normally dry arroyos is likely. The heavy rains
will likely trigger rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep
terrain, especially in and around these areas.

SOUTHWESTERN HUERFANO AND NORTHEASTERN COSTILLA COUNTIES...

At 544 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy 
rain across the warned area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have already 
fallen along and south of highway 160 with flooding reported along 
portions of highway 160. Flash flooding is expected to continue.

Excessive rainfall over the Spring burn scar will result in debris 
flow moving through the Vega Creek, Wagon Creek, North Middle Creek 
and Middle Creek drainages. The debris flow can consist of rock, 
mud, vegetation and other loose materials.
