* Impact...At 19.0 feet...Moderate Flood Stage.  The French Broad 
  River may be overtopping the railroad tracks and floodwaters may be
  threatening a trailer park on River Ridge Rd. Floodwaters may be 
  approaching buildings north of Grove Bridge Road along US 64. Parts
  of River Road, Pleasant Grove Rd., Butler Bridge Rd. and Big Willow
  Rd. are likely flooding. Associated tributaries, including Little 
  River, are likely flooding due to high water levels on the French 
  Broad River.
* Impact...At 18.0 feet...Minor Flooding continues. Widespread 
  farmland flooding between the French Broad River and the railroad 
  tracks is ongoing.  The river may be overtopping the railroad 
  tracks near Fodderstack Mountain Rd. and River Ridge Rd.  The 
  intersection of River Rd. and Big Willow Rd. is inundated with 
  several inches of water.
* Impact...At 17.0 feet...Minor Flooding continues.  Floodwaters 
  continue to inundate farmland between the French Broad River and 
  the railroad tracks. Floodwaters may start to inundate the 
  shoulders of River Road near the Big Willow Road intersection. 
  Floodwaters continue to impact boat access areas at Grove Bridge 
  Rd. and Crab Creek Rd.
* Impact...At 16.0 feet...Minor Flood Stage. Farmland flooding 
  continues on both sides of the French Broad River. Floodwaters

* Impact...At 15.0 feet...Minor Flooding continues.  French Broad 
  River floodwaters may be impacting several roads within the valley,
  resulting in road closures including along Glenn Bridge Rd., Pinner
  Rd., Butler Bridge Rd., Nelson Rd., Banner Farm Rd., Brannon Rd., 
  Old Brevard Hwy., and Ladson Rd.  Widespread farmland flooding is 
  ongoing with floodwaters impacting some residential and commercial 
  property and outbuildings.  Adjacent parks and river access points 
  along the reach of the river are experiencing significant 
  inundation.
* Impact...At 13.0 feet...Minor Flood Stage.  French Broad River 
  floodwaters are now inundating Banner Farm Rd.  Floodwaters may be 
  approaching portions of Glenn Bridge Rd.  Farmland and other 
  low-lying areas within the French Broad River Valley from Etowah to
  Avery Creek are experiencing scattered flooding.  Glenn Bridge Park
  and river access is experiencing scattered flooding.

.SYNOPSIS...
A moist airmass will then persist on Thursday into Friday, with a
few waves of thunderstorms arriving from the west. Slightly drier
air will mix in from the west over the weekend, but moisture may
return by late weekend or early next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE MOUNTAINS
AND THE NC FOOTHILLS THROUGH 8 AM THURSDAY...

As of 450 pm: Shower coverage has not increased appreciably over
the past few hours, however cells have become more discrete and we
have started to see a few cloud to ground lightning strikes over
far NE Georgia. This activity is expected to spread north and east
and over the areas near the eastern escarpment. Many of these areas
could see new flash flooding develop with only half an inch to an
inch of rainfall in a 1 to 3 hour period. Thus, the Flash Flood
Watch remains in effect through tonight. Coverage of convection
will gradually diminish through the evening, but as has been the
case the past few nights, the juicy air mass will likely support
at least isolated coverage through the overnight, especially across
southwest NC and northeast GA.

Otherwise, height falls associated with a series of short wave troughs
traversing the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley/approaching the East Coast
will act to suppress the western Atlantic ridge tomorrow, veering
the mid-level flow over our area to westerly. This will allow
somewhat drier/lower PWAT to advect into the area, although it will
also begin advecting the plume of higher mid-level lapse rates to
our west into the area as well. Thus, while overall moisture will be
less, instability is expected to be greater, which may result in
lesser coverage but greater intensity of convection. Additionally,
there is some suggestion in the CAMs guidance that cold-pool driven
convection could become somewhat organized across the TN/Ohio
Valleys tomorrow afternoon and make a run toward the forecast area
by evening. Overall trends support another round of 50-60 pops for
diurnal convection tomorrow afternoon. The threat for localized
flash flooding will continue, particularly in the areas along the
Blue Ridge with poor antecedent conditions, while there may be a
slight increase in the threat for localized damaging winds from
pulse-y and/or multicellular convection.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 215 PM EDT Wednesday: Synoptic pattern at the start of the
short term period will consist of upper ridge over the
Bahamas/Western Atlantic, another one over Mexico (with a weakness
between, allowing for continued Gulf moisture advection), and a
shortwave trough (including the remnants of Albert) crossing the
Great Lakes in the northern stream. Soupy airmass will remain in
place, but with the dynamics of the system lifting to the north, the
deep layer moisture will wane somewhat with PWs down to about 1.5",
perhaps slightly above, as we start the period. Overnight Thursday
night and into Friday, the shortwave will dip farther south down the
Appalachians toward the Gulf weakness, and between the synoptic lift
and the orographic lift as it approaches the mountains, should see
an increase in convective coverage for Friday afternoon. Main
concern will remain across the mountains where soil moistures will
remain quite high, but with the shortwave moving across and lee
troughing developing, SW flow will allow temperatures to warm up
into the upper 80s and near 90 across the Piedmont, with steep low-
level lapse rates in place. Some weak CAA aloft with the approaching
shortwave with steepen the lapse rates aloft, leading to an increase
in CAPE. NAM and GFS are both pointing to at least 2500-3000J/kg
across the foothills and adjacent Piedmont during peak heating
Friday afternoon just ahead of the surface trough. No real deep-
layer shear to speak of but with that kind of instability rainfall
rates could be intense. Dry-air entrainment might also lead to some
marginally severe wind gusts and with those updrafts some small hail
also possible. High chance to likely pops everywhere, and may need
to be increased with subsequent forecasts.

We'll be on the back side of the shortwave on Saturday and, finally,
perhaps the start of a breather for some of the area. New guidance
is hinting at some redevelopment across the NW NC Piedmont as the
shortwave gets briefly hung up across the middle Appalachians, but
have not bitten completely off on this solution yet. Still have area-
wide chance pops, but significantly reduced from the previous days.
Not much change in temperatures between Friday and Saturday, though
if the NW Piedmont convection pans out, highs will probably be kept
slightly lower.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 200 PM Wednesday: A surface cold front will move south of our
area Saturday night and Sunday then stall out over northern Florida
during the first half of the week.  A shortwave moving into the East
Coast longwave trough by late Sunday could kick up an increased risk
of thunderstorms late Sunday. GFS CAPE values late Sunday has around
4000 around Lake Hartwell and 2500 around CLT.  Wind shear is fairly
light with this shortwave for our area. The wind shear is better
over central and south Georgia in the more convective air.  The EC
is not as robust in the factors of more convection.

The East Coast trough holds until mid week when the mid nation ridge
starts to build east. GFS is much more robust with the ridge and EC
creates more of a flatter West to East Flow. A strong northern
stream wave may bring some affects to the mountains late in the week
but seems to be after the current forecast.

Max Temps on Sunday just above normal and through mid week near or
just below normal. Min Temps a little above normal.

.AVIATION /21Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
At KCLT and elsewhere: Showers are increasing in coverage across the
high terrain of southwest NC, and across the mountains and foothills
of SC and northeast GA. Coverage of showers will continue to
increase and spread steadily E/NE throughout the afternoon, while at
least scattered thunderstorms are also expected. Tempos for SHRA are
included at most sites into late afternoon, after which time tempos
for TSRA are carried into the evening. KCLT is an exception to this
trend, as only a tempo for SHRA is included from 19-23Z. This may
have to be altered at some point, but TS chances are too uncertain
to include in the forecast attm. Coverage of showers and storms will
decrease this evening, although (as has been the case the past few
nights) at least isolated coverage will likely linger well into the
overnight. Otherwise, the continued soupy air mass will allow
low/IFR or LIFR cigs to redevelop around daybreak, lifting by late
Thu morning. Winds will remain out of the S/SW at around 10 kts this
afternoon, diminishing to around 5 kts this evening.

Outlook: Slightly drier air will filter into the area for the end of
the week. However, scattered afternoon/evening showers and
thunderstorms, along with possible morning fog and/or low cigs are
expected each day through early next week.

...A THUNDERSTORM WITH TORRENTIAL RAINFALL WILL IMPACT CENTRAL UNION
COUNTY UNTIL 715 PM EDT...

At 648 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a thunderstorm with
torrential rainfall near Monroe, moving north at 30 mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Monroe, Unionville, Wingate, Fairview In Union County, Hemby Bridge,
Marshville, Indian Trail, Stallings, Trinity and New Salem.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph, half inch hail and very heavy rainfall rates
up to 2 inches per hour will be possible in these areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Gusty winds can blow down trees that are dead, or that have weakened
root systems. Outdoor furniture and similar items can be tossed
around if not anchored. Seek shelter indoors.

Torrential rainfall may flood areas with poor drainage, such as
ditches and underpasses. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded
roads. Water levels of small streams may also rise rapidly. Seek
higher ground if threatened by flood waters.
