* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southwestern Chaffee County in central Colorado...
Including the Chalk Creek Basin above Nathrop, Alpine, Saint Elmo.
* Until 230 PM MDT
* At 1229 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is expected to
begin shortly.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Alpine, St Elmo, County Road 292 and Chalk Creek.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.
Move away from the area. Life-threatening flooding of creeks, roads
and normally dry arroyos is likely. The heavy rains may trigger
rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep terrain, especially
in and around these areas.

At 134 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy
rain across the warned area. Doppler radar estimates indicate that
up to 1 inch of rain has already fallen over the upper reaches of
the Chalk Creek Basin, southwest of Saint Elmo. Flash flooding is
expected to begin shortly.
Some locations that may experience flooding include...
St Elmo, County Road 292, County Road 295, Alpine and Chalk Creek.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
Move up and out of low lying areas. Life-threatening flooding of
creeks, roads and normally dry streams is likely. The heavy rains
may trigger rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep terrain,
especially in and around these areas.
