MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0974
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0451 AM CDT SAT JUN 18 2016
AREAS AFFECTED...WESTERN OK
CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 269...
VALID 180951Z - 181045Z
THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 269
CONTINUES.
SUMMARY...RISK FOR STRONG TO ISOLATED SEVERE WIND GUSTS SHOULD
CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST SUNRISE. WW 269 MAY NEED TO BE LOCALLY
EXPANDED SOUTHWARD IN SOUTHWEST OK.
DISCUSSION...QLCS OVER NORTHWEST OK AND FAR SOUTHERN KS APPEARS TO
BE DEVELOPING AN MCV ALONG THE EASTWARD-MOVING COMPONENT NEAR THE
STATE BORDER. MEANWHILE...THE SOUTHWARD-MOVING PORTION APPROACHING
THE I-40 CORRIDOR IN WEST-CENTRAL OK SEEMS MOST PROBABLE TO SUSTAIN
STRONG TO SEVERE WIND GUSTS GIVEN ITS PROPAGATION COMPONENT RELATIVE
TO A VERTICALLY-VEERING WIND PROFILE WITH HEIGHT. 5-9 KM MSL CAPPI
REFLECTIVITY SUGGESTS THE QLCS HAS BEGUN AN OVERALL WEAKENING
TREND...WHICH SHOULD RESULT IN THE SEVERE RISK SUBSIDING OVER THE
NEXT 2-3 HOURS. HOWEVER...WITH APPROACH OF THE OUTFLOW NEAR THE EDGE
OF WW 269...IT MAY BE PRUDENT TO EXTEND THIS WATCH A COUPLE TIERS OF
COUNTIES SOUTHWARD GIVEN THE SWATH OF MEASURED SEVERE WIND GUSTS
/MOST RECENTLY IN DEWEY COUNTY/.
