Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Springfield MO 630 AM CDT Fri Oct 7 2016 .SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight) Issued at 218 AM CDT Fri Oct 7 2016 A strong cold front is beginning to move into the region from the northwest as of 2 AM, and will continue to push through the area this morning. An area of thunderstorms that developed ahead of the front last night has weakened considerably this morning, with rain generally confined to the western half of the CWA. Current expectations are for this area of rain to continue for a few more hours, before diminishing as the front moves through. For areas east of Highway 65, additional rainfall appears relatively unlikely at this time. The frontal passage should bring a noticeable drop in temperatures this morning for many areas, though some moderate warming (or at least steady temperatures) is expected by afternoon as increasing sunshine offsets the cold air advection. Dewpoints will tank this afternoon into the 40s as high pressure starts to build into the area. This will set the stage for a chilly night, with low temperatures in the low 40s for most. A few readings in the upper 30s are certainly possible in some of the colder areas. .LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday) Issued at 218 AM CDT Fri Oct 7 2016 This looks to be the second weekend in a row of near perfect early Autumn weather, with highs Saturday and Sunday in the 70s, and lows in the 40s. Skies should remain sunny through the weekend. Pleasant weather will continue into at least mid week next week, with a gradual warming trend Monday-Wednesday. Another frontal passage, albeit much weaker than this morning's, is possible by Wednesday or Thursday, as a shortwave swings across the northern Plains and Great Lakes. Precip chances with this front look somewhat limited, given a fairly dry airmass in place.
