  Big Creek near Cumming affecting Forsyth County


.Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant runoff into streams and
rivers which will cause flooding in some areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest
forecasts...and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect
life and property.

The latest stage data was furnished in cooperation with the United 
States Geological Survey.

  The Big Creek near Cumming.
* From this morning until late tonight.
* At 645 AM Monday the stage was 4.5 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 6 feet.
* The creek is forecast to rise above flood stage this morning and 
  continue to rise...reaching near 8.4 feet by late this afternoon.
  The creek will fall below flood stage this evening.
* At 8 feet...Minor flooding expands into the natural flood plain of 
  the creek upstream and downstream from the gage at Atlanta Highway 
  or Georgia Highway 9. Most of the sidewalk and boardwalk of the Big 
  Creek Greenway will be under a foot or two of water. The areas 
  under the Georgia 400 Highway and McFarland Road will be covered 
  with around three feet of water. A portion of the sidewalk under 
  Majors Road will be covered with around four feet of water.

  Drive and Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia are 
  under a foot of water. The Big Creek Greenway experiences 
  significant flooding up to 4 feet deep with closure of the paths. 
  This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Hill Park. A large portion of the YMCA
  Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a two feet of

  South Fork Peachtree Creek will likely produce flooding further 
  downstream on Peachtree Creek in Fulton County.

* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 17 feet.

  continue to rise to near 17.4 feet this afternoon.The river will
  fall below flood stage by later this afternoon.
* At 17 feet...Flood Stage is reached with minor flooding along the
  creek upstream and downstream from the gage on Northside Drive. 
  Woodward Way becomes impassable with 1 to 4 feet of water on the 
  road. Front yards of homes will also be flooded. The Atlanta 
  Memorial Park and large portions of the Cross Creek and Bobby Jones
  Golf Courses are flooded. Sections of Hanover West Drive and 
  backyards on portions of Peachtree Battle Avenue will be flood with
  1 to 2 feet of water.

  downstream from the gage on Gees Mill Road in Rockdale County. Most
  of Sockwell Road by the river in Newton County will be flooded with
  up to 4 feet of water. Minor flooding also occurs in Newton County 
  in the Riverside Estates Travel and Trailer Park. Any trailers near
  the river may need to be moved to higher ground. A playground by

  under a foot of water. The Big Creek Greenway experiences 
  significant flooding up to 4 feet deep with closure of the paths.
