FLASH FLOOD AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CORPUS CHRISTI TX 830 PM CDT TUE JUN 17 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CORPUS CHRISTI HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1000 PM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY...... IN SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS ...NORTHERN JIM WELLS COUNTY SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL WAS NEAR ORANGE GROVE. MOVEMENT OF THE STORM WAS SLOWLY TO THE EAST AT 5 MPH. STORMS WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT THE ORANGE GROVE AND SANDIA AREAS. MAJOR FLOODING IS LIKELY AND MOTORISTS ARE DISCOURAGED TO TRAVEL INTO NORTHERN JIM WELLS COUNTY. RAINFALL ESTIMATES OF 3 TO 5 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE. DAMAGING THUNDERSTORM WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE WITH THESE STORMS. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGH GROUND.
