   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

2. EF186 to 110 mph

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

3. EF2111 to 135 mphthis tornado

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

4. EF3136 to 165 mph

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

7. Unrated

   The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

Low pressure deepened rapidly as it moved north into Wisconsin during the early morning hours on the 29th of February. A regional severe weather outbreak developed during the early morning hours across Kansas, southern Missouri and southern Illinois. As a squall line entered western and central Kentucky, strong low level shear allow discrete supercells to form along this line. Several tornadoes and widespread severe hail developed during the late afternoon and early morning hours.

A survey determined that an EF-2 tornado with estimated winds of 125 to 130 mph touched down near 4510 Gaither Station Road and traveled 5 miles northeast while crossing Interstate 65. After damaging a barn near its initial touchdown point, the tornado damaged some homes and knocked down many trees and fences while crossing New Glendale and Overall Phillips Roads. After crossing the interstate, it then lifted the roofs off of several homes along Wildwood Drive and Sportmans Lake Road. The tornado attained its maximum width of 250 yards while striking a trucking company. Here, it buckled many roof trusses and spread significant debris over the Lincoln Parkway into a mobile home park. Finally, the tornado destroyed a garage and damaged 3 roofs along Hodgenville Road before lifting several hundred yards east of the road.

15 minutes of warning. NWS LMK issued a tornado warning for this county at 14:40 UTC, 15 minutes before the tornado touched down, in force until 15:00 UTC.

The county was under a tornado watch, issued at 10:39 UTC and running to 17:38 UTC.
