F0 tornado, Vincennes to Montrose, Iowa, May 30, 2004
From Vincennes to Montrose, this F0 tornado ran 0.3 miles across Lee County on May 30, 2004, touching down at 2:26 PM CDT and reaching 40 yards wide. It killed nobody, and did $10,000 of property damage.

Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

What the Weather Service recorded
Tornado was the first of 4 that developed out of a cyclic supercell in Lee County Iowa. Tornado touched down north of 320th Street just east of the Shafer Farm and moved generally east causing tree damage.
Second tornado from cyclic supercell developed in the creek bottoms of Little Sugar Creek and moved generally east. It hit the Jim Newsbaum Farm destroying an outbuilding and machine shed and causing considerable tree damage.
Third tornado of the cyclic Lee supercell developed in the bottom land west of 223rd Avenue and moved generally east hitting the property of the Eastman Residence on Ambrosia Lane. Numerous trees were downed with a satellite dish crumpled and a picnic table thrown. A gas grill was tossed into car damaging its side.
The fourth and final tornado in the cyclic Lee County supercell developed just east of the Bardlow Farm and moved east northeast to the edge of Montrose before dissipating. Numerous trees and power lines were downed with a garage being totally destroyed. A barn had its roof lifted, slightly twisted, and then set back down on the parent structure. If the tornado have gone another two blocks, it would have moved into a residential area of Montrose.
