The deadliest
- Winter Storm in Wyoming, October 10 to 12, 2008A large low pressure system tracked from the southern Great Basin across Wyoming bringing heavy snowfall to western and central Wyoming. The slow moving storm pumped abundant moisture north into the state ahead of the main area of low pressure producing heavy snow.
- Flash Flood in Wyoming, July 19, 2011Debris carried down by runoff from heavy rainfall clogged a drainage culvert on a small section of Highway 130, resulting in the water washing away the pavement around the culvert shortly after midnight on July 19.
- Avalanche in Wyoming, January 12, 2008Three men were killed near Cottonwood Lake when an avalanche enveloped them and their snowmobiles. The slide was estimated to have been one-half mile long, 400 yards wide at the bottom, and covered about 10 acres at an average depth of 10 feet in the runout zone.
- Avalanche in Wyoming, February 27, 2009A group of four snowmobilers triggered a mile long, 100 yard wide avalanche in the Deadhorse Creek drainage near Alpine in Lincoln County.
- Tornado and Flash Flood in Wyoming, August 12, 2005A tornado touched down 1 mile north of Wright and traveled southeast into the town.
- Winter Weather in Wyoming, February 18, 2026A strong and moist trough pushed inland during the middle portion of February, leading to several days of impactful weather.
- Lightning Strike in Wyoming, July 24, 1999Lightning killed two hikers on Medicine Bow peak northwest of Centennial, WY, about 150 to 200feet below the summit at an altitude just over 12,000 feet.
- Winter Storm in Wyoming, October 29 to 31, 2003A strong autumn snowstorm brought widespread heavy snow to much of western and central Wyoming. Some portions of this region received anywhere from 1 to 3 feet of snow.
- Blizzard and Winter Storm in Wyoming, December 25 to 26, 2009An upper level disturbance on the west coast moved southward over the southern Rockies and then out onto the southern plains from approximately December 21st through the 26th. This system affected the Cheyenne CWA in two waves.
- Avalanche in Wyoming, April 16, 2011Two backcountry skiers were buried by a large avalanche shed from the north face of Nez Perce Peak the night of Saturday, April 16 as the skiers were sheltering in their tents for the night.
- Avalanche in Wyoming, March 7, 2012An avalanche on Ranger Peak killed two backcountry skiers Wednesday, March 7. The skiers were found the following day after a family member reported one of them missing. The avalanche occurred at 10,500 feet and swept the skiers 3,000 vertical feet down Waterfalls Canyon.
- Dense Fog in Wyoming, April 20, 2015Dense fog formed across the Laramie valley during the early morning hours. The combination of the very low visibility and icy road surface contributed to a deadly multi-vehicle pileup on Interstate 80 about 18 miles west of Laramie.
- Avalanche in Wyoming, May 17, 2015Four skiers were climbing the Sickle Couloir on Mount Moran in Grand Teton National Park on Sunday morning, May 17, when a shallow, wet avalanche broke from above. Three of the four skiers were swept 500 feet downhill over rock and ice.
- Avalanche in Wyoming, January 24, 2016A two to four feet deep, 200-foot-wide avalanche claimed the lives of two skiers while a third escaped injury by clinging to a tree. The slide occurred on Ralph's Slide in Rock Springs Canyon shortly before 1430MST.
- Heavy Snow and Winter Weather in Wyoming, October 22 to 23, 2020Wyoming Highway Patrol investigated a crash between a dump truck and pickup truck along Interstate 25 west five miles west of Douglas around milepost 145.
- Tornadoes in Wyoming, July 16, 1979
- Wildfire and High Wind in Wyoming, November 15 to 16, 2021A combination of a cold front, a potent jet, and strong winds being mixed to the surface brought high winds to much of northern and central Wyoming.
- Damaging Winds and High Wind in Wyoming, July 3 to 7, 2023A strong cold front and shortwave moved across Wyoming. Showers and thunderstorms mixed strong low level winds to the surface and brought numerous reports of wind gusts over 50 mph.
- Winter Storm in Wyoming, December 8 to 11, 1997Winter storm conditions caused by fresh snow and strong winds contributed to 76 accidents from 2200 12/08 to 1700 12/10 in Laramie and Albany counties. 17 of the accidents involved injuries, the exact number of which are not known.
- Cold in Wyoming, February 1 to 4, 1996Low temperatures dropped to between 10 below zero and 45 below zero during this time across the state. On the 1st, strong winds lowered wind chill temperatures to as low as 60 below zero in some locations. Some young livestock were frozen.
- Winter Weather in Wyoming, March 5, 1999Blowing snow and icy roads caused several accidents on Interstates 25 and 80. An accident occurred at 316 pm west of Cheyenne when a man lost control of his pickup on the ice. The truck flipped over into the ditch.
- Hail and Damaging Wind in Wyoming, August 2, 2013A thunderstorm developed in the Gillette area and quickly became severe. The storm produced heavy rain over part of town and large hail and strong wind gusts east of Gillette.
- Winter Storm in Wyoming, December 3, 1999Icy roads from snowfall resulted in a few serious accidents. The most significant was a collision between two semi trucks on Interstate 80 about 17 miles west of Cheyenne, Wy.
- Winter Storm in Wyoming, October 12, 1997A Utah man died of head injuries after his pickup truck slid on black ice on a bridge and rolled. The accident occurred on Interstate 80 at the Arlington interchange. An accident near Laramie involving a bus injured at least 30 people.
- Winter Storm and Winter Weather in Wyoming, December 21 to 22, 2011A storm system moved through central Wyoming bringing heavy snow to Casper Mountain and the Wind River Range and adjacent foothills. Two feet of snow fell on Casper Mountain with up to eight inches southeast of Casper.
