Occluding low pressure system to the north moves east, further into Canada. Associated warm front moved through the state Tuesday evening, March 31st, and associated cold front moved through Maine quickly behind it on Wednesday, April 1st. Downeast region saw some snowfall early Tuesday morning, and alongside the warm front, mid-level warm air advection created a prime environment for some sleet development. Precipitation began as snow in the north, freezing rain/sleet in the Central Highlands, and rain Downeast. As the cold front quickly swept through the region, tanking temperatures. and resulting in more mixed precipitation. By the time the system fully moved through the region by Wednesday, roughly, 1/2 to just under 1 inch of sleet fell in Aroostook county. Roughly 0.1 to 0.25 inches of freezing rain fell in southern Aroostook, Piscataquis and northern Penobscot counties. Event continues into April 1st. System resulted in messy travel conditions.
