A supercell developed during the mid afternoon hours, producing large hail in Winchester in Franklin County. A secondary batch of thunderstorms produced a swath damaging winds across southwest through south central Lincoln County during the evening hours.

Convective temperatures are now being reached for surface based
convection. Convective cells are developing in middle TN along a
developing pre-frontal surface trough. This as very cold air aloft
advects into the region. Dew points have risen into the upper 40s
to lower 50s over north AL, but mixing is keeping them in the upper
30s to lower 40s in middle TN. As stated earlier, large hail
appears to be decent threat given steep lapse rate and increasing
CAPE values despite dew points sub-55F. Expect a general increase
in isolated to scattered thunderstorms over the next hour or two.

We are watching the growing cluster of thunderstorms, some severe
associated with the next upper wave/cold pocket over southeast MO
into northeast AR. These will race southeast with fast storm
motions in the deep layer northwest flow. HRRR forecasts this to
reach our northwest counties between 22-00Z. Upscale growth with
this cluster may yield a cold pool and damaging wind threat as has
been seen in recent CAMs and NAM forecasts. After the cold front
passes, temperatures will fall back into the 40s after Midnight.

The convective clusters in west TN and KY will develop a cold pool
and become a gusty to damaging wind threat given the inverted V
sounding profiles behind the surface trough. The NAM in particular
depicts a fall/rise couplet along this MCS this evening into the
overnight as it slides southeast with the next 5h/7h trough.

The cold pocket behind this trough will keep clouds and shower
activity at times in play through Friday. As such, temperatures
will be held in the upper 50s to lower 60s Friday.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday night through Wednesday)

Through Saturday night into Sunday morning surface high pressure
will continue to build directly over the TN Valley. SSE flow on
Sunday will allow temps to rise into the low 70s making for a very
pleasant end to the weekend. We will maintain the favorable
return flow pattern locally on Monday with temps soaring into the
80s. To our west, a mid level low pressure system and associated
surface cold front will begin to push south through the Mid West.
Ahead of this feature, cloud cover will increase on Tuesday
limiting temps to the mid 70s. The surface low looks to pass well
to our north on Tuesday, keeping any chance for strong or severe
storms north of our area. There is a brief window Tuesday with a
low chance (10-20%) for rain as the front pushes through the
region. By Tuesday night however, the post frontal continental air
will have infiltrated the area dragging lows back into the 40s.
Fortunately clear skies on Wednesday will allow for a quick
rebound of temps into the high 60s.

VFR conditions will persist most of the period. Scattered SHRA and
+TSRA will be possible this afternoon into the evening hours,
which will produce gusty winds and hail in the strongest storms.
Ceilings may stay VFR, but visibility may drop to 2SM or below
(IFR) briefly. A cold front will shift winds from west to
northwest late tonight, with ceilings dropping below 020agl (MVFR)
by ~14Z.
