KEY MESSAGES: 1) The next system will bring showers and thunderstorms into the area by Thursday morning. Another round of precipitation is expected to move in again late Thursday. 2) Severe thunderstorms can be expected Thursday over most of the area, especially south of a line from Plentywood to Fort Peck Lake. 3) Cool with scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected Friday into Saturday with a gradual shift to drier and warmer conditions by next week. WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: The sunshine today will be replaced with increasing clouds tonight as the next system moves in. Rainshowers with isolated thunderstorms then move in from the southwest by Thursday morning with another round moving in later in the day. An upper low drifting toward us will trigger the enough instability for a Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms over mostly the southeast half of the CWA. Hail and damaging winds will be the greatest threats, especially closer to the ND border. Shower chances thereafter will then shift to the northern zones through the weekend as the upper low drifts east across the area. Look for conditions to take awhile to dry out with the upper low drifting very slowly to the east. By the middle of next week, ensemles are showing temperatures to return to the 80s but another upper low may move into western Canada. So the dry and warm conditions may be shortlived. MVFR possible Thursday. DISCUSSION: Expect increasing clouds tonight as the next system approaches the area. A couple batches of rainshowers with thunder will move east through the area Thursday. Some could be severe with large hail, damaging winds and brief heavy rain. Expect MVFR/possibly brief IFR conditions under the heavier showers. WIND: Variable winds this evening will become East then turning counter-clockwise from west to east late tonight to Thursday morning and increasing slightly to 10--15 kts.
