Issued at 146 AM MDT Fri Apr 18 2025 Strong northerly winds have persisted overnight, but have started dying down. Gusts over 35 mph are possible in some places, but we should speeds rapidly drop off by lunchtime. As the low shifts off to the southeast, snow showers will continue drop south and west over eastern Idaho through the day. We might even still see a couple of thunderstorms, although the chance is around 10-15% at best. Additional accumulations will be light, although heavier showers/bands could produce a couple of inches easily. For tonight through Saturday afternoon, look for dry conditions as high pressure quickly shifts across the state. The next "wave" moves through quickly and won't produce much moisture at all Saturday night. Temperatures will be on the upswing. It does remain chilly though. Very few spots today will make it above 50 this afternoon. We jump about 10 degrees tomorrow after a cold start across our side of the state. Issued at 146 AM MDT Fri Apr 18 2025 By Sunday afternoon, a transient ridge of high pressure will be moving out of our area as the next trough approaches Eastern Idaho. This will mean some light precipitation in the higher elevations by Sunday afternoon and precip chances increasing in the valleys Sunday evening into Monday morning. Highs on Sunday will be in the 50s and 60s and everyone will be about 5 degrees cooler on Monday behind that passing trough. Look for breezy to windy conditions on Sunday and Monday, too, with gusts on Sunday around 30 to 35 mph and increasing to near 40 mph on Monday. We get a short break in the activity on Tuesday as we return to zonal flow aloft for the day. This will allow afternoon highs to warm just a few degrees and winds will be much lighter comparatively on Tuesday. Our next trough begins to move into the area on Wednesday which will help continue our warming trend, but will also help bring back precipitation chances to Eastern Idaho, especially as we head into Thursday, with about a 10 to 20 percent chance of at least a rumble of thunder or two. && .AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SATURDAY/... Issued at 521 AM MDT Fri Apr 18 2025 Wrap around moisture is working its way through Eastern Idaho early this morning, though mainly in the form of cloud cover. We are seeing returns on radar, but any moisture seems to be having a hard time making it to the ground so far. Most of these showers are expected to be done by 18Z, though may linger just a bit longer around DIJ in a more hit and miss capacity through the afternoon. SUN stays out of reach of any of these showers and should remain dry today. Wind gusts will gradually diminish throughout today, too, but continue around 20 to 30 kts at PIH, BYI, and IDA through 18Z. By tonight, winds will be much lighter.
