A slow moving thunderstorm moved over Tutuila island on the afternoon and evening hours on January 4th. WSO Pago Pago recorded 3.5 inches of rain between 3:50 PM and 6:50 PM. This led to multiple reports of flooding in the region.

On the evening of the 4th, a road in front of the Mormon Church along the Fatuoaiga region was flooded from recent rainfall. With heavy rainfall, poor storm drainage, and large scale construction in the area, ponding of the road reached up to a foot.
On the evening of the 4th, local police reported debris on the roadway along the main road in the village of Auto. Debris flowed down Palapala mountain via Mulialeuai stream. The police sited navigation in the area for local vehicle was hard to pass through . An estimated 3.5 inches of rain occurred in the region from 3:50 PM to 6:50 PM.
