- A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Guadalupe and Delaware
Mountains from this morning through this evening.
- A strong cold front moves through the region late Monday into
early Tuesday bringing colder temperatures for the middle of
the coming week.
- A widespread freeze is possible Wednesday morning for the
region. Freeze products may be needed in later forecasts for
portions of the Rio Grande Valley that have yet to see their
first freeze.

The final area of precipitation associated with an upper trough has
moved out of our region this morning. Low level moisture will erode
by afternoon as westerly, downslope flow develops with much of the
area within the dry slot of the lifting trough. Strong winds will
mix to the surface across the area with the higher terrain seeing
the worst of it. A High Wind Warning remains in effect for the
Guadalupe/Delaware Mountains today where winds will gust to near 70
mph. Some of these stronger winds will spread out into the plains
east of the mountains so have placed a Wind Advisory from Eddy
County south to the Davis Mountains. Elsewhere, expect winds 25-30
mph. Clearing skies along with the west winds will give
temperatures a boost back above normal. Highs will climb into the
60s and 70s this afternoon.
After a mild night, warm conditions will return Monday ahead of a
strong cold front. There are some timing differences with the front
so there is a low chance that highs could be several degrees cooler
across the northern Permian Basin.

The extended forecast starts Tuesday morning with a front moving
southward across the area. Colder air moves all the way down to the
Rio Grande with 30s seen nearly areawide. High terrain spots dip
into the 20s. Highs on Tuesday struggle to get much above 50F for
most spots. Clear skies and light winds combine to make for the
coldest morning of the season so far. Much of the area will be below
freezing with many in the mid to upper 20s. Freeze products will be
needed for the Rio Grande Valley in subsequent forecast packages
leading up to Wednesday morning. Rest of the week and into next
weekend sees a slow warm up with temperatures reaching back above
normal. Precipitation chances remain low (<5%) for the entire
forecast period.

VFR conditions will prevail through the period. Strong westerly-
southwesterly winds are expected to continue through the
afternoon into early evening. There is high (70-90%) confidence
of winds gusting over 30 kts during this time at all terminals
except for FST. Winds begin to settle down by tonight, with winds
shifting more westerly by the end of the period.
