Showers and thunderstorms will continue to move through the Mid-
South through this evening as a mid-level trough swings through
the Middle Mississippi Valley. A warming trend starts tomorrow
with heat index values across portions of the Mid-South reaching
or exceeding 105 degrees. Hot and dry conditions may result in an
Excessive Heat Warning being needed for the middle to late
portions of the week. Some relief from the heat is possible by
next weekend.

Early afternoon water vapor analysis depicts that a negatively
tilted mid-level trough is continuing to advance northeast across
portions of the Mid-Mississippi Valley. Ongoing precipitation
across the Mid-South is expected to gradually taper off later this
evening as this feature moves through the area. Thereafter,
northwest flow looks to prevail across the region with gradual
geopotential height rises occurring as a ridge builds over the
south central US. On Monday, moisture from recent rainfall will
promote dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s that when combined with
surface temperatures increasing into the low to mid 90s yields
heat index values greater than or equal to 105 degrees across a
portions of the Mid-South. Given the fact that these values look
encompass a greater spatial area than the previous forecast, the
heat advisory has been extended eastward to account for this
potential.
By Tuesday, the western two-thirds, if not all, of the CWA could
reach or exceed Excessive Heat Warning criteria (greater than or
equal to 110 degrees), as upper-level ridging continues to build
over the region. This pattern looks to persist through Wednesday
and Thursday as well, so be sure to take heat safety precautions
and take frequent breaks if you plan to be outdoors. On Friday,
the ensemble guidance continues to suggest that the upper ridge
will migrate westward and amplify over the western US, resulting
in northwest flow across the region. As subtle height falls begin
to occur, heat index values look to fall to near advisory
criteria areawide, though some areas in the Mississippi Delta
region could see an Excessive Heat Warning around this time. On
Saturday, geopotential heights continue to fall as troughing
builds over the eastern US, resulting in most areas remaining
below advisory criteria.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across much of
the Mid-South this afternoon and into the early evening. Another
round of thunderstorms is possible Monday morning. Ceilings will
drop to MVFR levels in the vicinity of thunderstorms, otherwise
VFR conditions are expected. Winds will be mainly from the south
at 5 to 10 knots through Monday morning with a shift to the
southwest with some higher gusts possible over northeast Arkansas.
