Issued at 350 AM CDT Tue Aug 20 2024 A ridge of high pressure will bring a continuation of rain-free weather to the Lower Mississippi Valley for the next seven days. Temperatures will average near to slightly below normal through Thursday with highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s and 60s. Temperatures will return to the 90s for Friday into early next week as a ridge of high pressure builds across the region. && .DISCUSSION... (Today through Monday) Issued at 350 AM CDT Tue Aug 20 2024 GOES-16 satellite this morning depicts an omega block centered over the Rockies with the eastern U.S. located within a deep upper-level trough. As a result, this is producing cool temperatures and rain free weather over the Mid-South early this morning. Temperatures as of 3 AM CDT are in the 60s to around 70 degrees. The aforementioned upper-level trough will bring slightly below normal to near normal temperatures to the Mid-South through Thursday. NAEFS shows temperature anomalies will average between 2-3 standard deviations with highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s and 60s. Long range model trends indicate the Omega block will move east towards the Central U.S. this weekend with temperatures rising above normal back into the lower to middle 90s.
