Surface low pressure was drifting across the Quad State on the 14th. Showers and thunderstorms developed in the afternoon to evening with Southwest Indiana seeing storms drift slowly northeastward. CAPE values around 1000 J/kg dropped off after sunset. Lapse rates were around 6.5 C/km, and shear was limited to around 25 kts. Despite also producing cold air funnels, one storm produced a brief EF-1 tornado on the northeast side of Newburgh. Torrential rainfall of 3-5.5 inches fell in Warrick County, producing widespread flash flooding for the late afternoon and evening hours.

With modest deep layer shear but just a little directional low level shear invof the surface low will have to monitor for a stray severe storm or two this afternoon. Antecedent soil conditions will also make at least a few areas primed for flash flooding if they happen to get storms once again this afternoon. Mainly a corridor from about Evansville to Cairo, IL that saw repeated activity through the midday hours Tuesday. Wednesday looks a little drier although some wraparound showers and clouds appear possible in the eastern half of the CWA. Friday a quick moving shortwave moves overhead. GFS/NAM have us in a little more large scale ascent zone of the upper jet Friday where the ECMWF is a little flatter with the wave. Rain and thunderstorms look quite likely. The shear environment will be more favorable than today, and instability may be slightly larger. That will be the main ticket to any severe potential Friday is if we end up with slightly more than currently advertised MLCAPE a more organized severe threat may result. Heavy rainfall will be a watch item as well with the increasingly wet soil conditions and fairly deep column moisture. A front moves through behind this system and looks to mostly dry us out for the weekend. By Saturday highs look to climb back into the middle 80s. 12z deterministic and ensemble members are still in very poor agreement on the details, but the broader moisture return, trough positioning and climatology would suggest it be monitored for severe weather and heavy rain potential as well. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z WEDNESDAY/... DWThe Evansville,IN radar (KVWX), 36 km away, was scanning. The volume nearest the first event began at 22:08 UTC.
1 flood, 1 thunderstorm wind, 1 tornado, 1 flash flood, 1 funnel cloud. Local standard time, as filed.
Water over the road near North Green Rover Rd/Vogel Rd in Evansville.
Several large tree limbs were downed by straight-line winds at Sharon Rd and Kenwood Dr.
A brief EF-1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 94 mph struck the northeast side of Newburgh, IN. The great majority of the damage was from uprooted trees and downed large tree limbs in a south to north path between Marywood Drive and Oakdale Drive. A couple homes also had fascia and gutter damage. NWS Paducah would like to thank the Warrick County Emergency Management Agency for surveying the damage path.
Widespread flooding occurred in Warrick County north of Newburgh. Fire officials reported flash flooding at Lincoln and Epworth Rd near Deaconess Gateway. Fire officials also reported that Oak Grove Rd was flooded due to drainage ditches out of their banks east of Anderson Rd and Coal Mine Rd flooded near Telephone Rd with moving water. News media reported roadway flooding near Grimm Rd and Willow Pond Rd. Waters rose into neighborhoods, businesses, and farmland along SR 66. 3-5 inches of rainfall fell on the 14th with most of the rain occurring in the late afternoon hours. A measuring site at Deaconess Gateway reported over 5.5 inches of rain for the day as of 1700CST. CoCoRaHS sites in Newburgh reported 2.75-3.65 inches of rain just south of the hardest hit locations.
