During the early afternoon of the 12th, an strong upper level low pressure system moved across the Central Great Plains. The combined OK and TX Panhandles were on the southern edge of this system with strong winds aloft rounding the low. Winds became breezy in the 25 to 35 mph range gusting up to 50 mph. For a short time these winds picked up to around 35 to 40 mph sustained with a few gusts up to 58 to 63 mph as the higher winds aloft mixed to the surface.
