Despite weaker than ideal winds, dry to critically dry fuels
across the Brush Country combined with low relative humidity
values of 20-30% will coincide with an area of increased this
afternoon which could gusts to 25 mph promoting rapid fire growth
and spread. ERC values across the Brush Country are also currently
in the 90-97th percentile with most of the Rio Grande Plains
above the 97th percentile. Therefore, issued a Fire Danger
Statement for the Brush Country for this afternoon from 1-8 PM.

Persistent heat through the short term with the east-west elongated
ridge shifting slightly northwestward through Friday as a trough
over the Great Lakes and eastern CONUS pushes into Northeast Texas.
Agree with previous short term as NBM dewpoints seem to be
underperforming what has been observed in the afternoon so touched
those up a couple degrees and will keep with an Excessive Heat
Warning from Kleberg to inland San Patricio Counties for heat index
values 115 to 120. Elsewhere, heat index values are expected to be
115 to 119 for 2 or more hours in the afternoon and are under a Heat
Advisory.
A swath of enhanced moisture will reach the coastal waters during
the day on Friday and have included a 20-30% chance of showers and
storms for the waters. Kept silent PoPs over land due to lack of
lift support but can't rule a shower or two along the sea breeze in
the afternoon with the slight increase in moisture advection. At
least a Heat Advisory will likely be needed for Friday over the
Coastal Plains but it may be dry enough to keep the Rio Grande
Plains out of it. Will re-evaluate in the next forecast package.
Also, NASA Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO) is showing
rather high dust concentration over South Texas this morning and
afternoon before decreasing by Friday morning. Seems like greatest
concentrations are focused near 850mb where the climatological max
temperatures rest. The ridge applying subsidence could help push
that dust down towards the surface through the day today. Extreme
heat and enhanced dust concentration impacting air quality makes it
an unpleasant day to do anything outside. Limit outdoor exposure,
take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, check on your neighbors
and elderly, and remember to look before you lock!

- Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible along the coast
early next week.
The forecast will continue to be hot and humid for the long term
forecast. The upper-level ridge will gradually shift back to the
west as a trough builds to the southeast. With PWATs increasing to
near 2 inches across the east and over the waters, a few isolated
showers and thunderstorms will be possible daily from Sunday through
Tuesday. Most of the activity is expected to remain offshore, but
we'll keep our fingers crossed for a few inland showers and
thunderstorms.
We'll keep our above average temperatures through next week, though
it does seem like heat index values will range from 110 to 114
degrees with only isolated locations reaching 115 or greater
so...yay? We will still need to remain cautious and careful: stay
hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and look before you lock!
High temperatures and dry to critically dry fuels could result in
rapid fire growth in spite of light winds. For this reason, we will
continue to monitor for elevated fire weather concerns.
