This tornado developed withing a large scale straight line wind|event which occurred across Pickens County. Similar to the other|tornado in Pickens county, this tornado developed on the north|side of a large surge in winds as denoted both on radar and|widespread wind damage on the ground. This EF0 tornado (peak winds estimated around 80 mph) first developed in a wooded area northwest of Carver Mill Road to the|west of the intersection of Carver Mill Rd and Dean Trail. Trees|were snapped or uprooted along its path which nearly paralleled |Carver Mill Rd until it crossed Hwy 53. Trees and powerlines were |downed along Carver Mill Rd, Dean Mill Rd, Red Branch Rd, Bradley |Rd and Perrow Hwy. The tornado tracked southwest crossing Hwy 53 |near Thompson Lane where trees were snapped and uprooted. Some |minor roof damage was also noted in the area. The tornado |dissipated shortly after crossing Hwy 53.

Trees down at intersection of hwy 52 and Glade Farm Road.

Approximately 500 trees down across Pickens County with county wide power outages. Damage has affected roughly 60 roads and a few homes damaged.

This particular tornado developed shortly after a large scale|straight line wind event unfolded across Pickens County. It should|be noted that while the tornado did considerable damage in the |span in which it was on the ground, the large scale straight line |wind damage across Pickens county southeastward was far more |considerable. The tornado formed on the north side a surge in the |winds along Long Swamp Church road very near the Bent Tree Lodge |and Vineyard and Angel on Horseback pavilion. Several trees were |snapped and uprooted in this area. The tornado continued eastward |through a wooded area crossing Dank road behind several homes on |the north side of Fitts Road. The tornado reached maximum |intensity as it crossed Fitts and Dank Roads where numerous trees |were snapped and uprooted, 1 home lost its roof, another home |sustained major roof damage and an outbuilding was destroyed. The |tornado continued southeast snapping and uprooting trees before |dissipating as it reached Skyline Drive. Peak winds were estimated around 95 mph (EF-1 tornado).

Reports of 17 trees and/or powerlines down on homes across Cherokee County.

A survey of northern Cherokee County was done to assess whether|or not a tornado occurred. The NWS assessment concluded that|widespread significant wind damage occurred and that a tornado|path within the large scale wind damage was not discernible. The|particular area of focus started along Fincher Road east along|Dixon Road, crossing Upper Burris Road south to Land Road. |Significant tree damage and pockets of more significant tree|damage was noted in and around Dixon Road east to Upper Burris|Road. Roof damage to homes in the area was also noted and used|to help estimate overall max wind speeds. Tree fall patterns|along Dixon Road east across Upper Burris south to Land Road were|suggestive of a downburst in the region with a fanning out|pattern observed on on the ground. It should be noted that damage|was observed across an area over 3.5 miles wide. Tree damage|extended north along Upper Bethany road over 1.5 miles north of|Land Road. The survey concluded that maximum wind speeds within|the more significant pockets of damage likely reached 90 mph.

Automated weather station (KCNI) in Canton (Cherokee County) reported 60 mph wind gust.

A survey of northern Forsyth County was done to assess whether or|not a tornado occurred. The NWS assessment concluded that|widespread significant wind damage occurred and that a tornado|path within the large scale wind damage was not discernible. The|particular area of focus started on Oak Grove Circle southeast|across Dahlonega Hwy, along Tallant Road and across Hopewell|Road. Radar data suggests that this region was located at the apex|of a bowing segment within the thunderstorm complex which had |already caused significant widespread wind damage. Tree fall |patterns along Tallant Road, Hopewell Rd and south of Tallant Road|along Dahlonega Hwy were more suggestive of straight line winds |or downburst due to the fanning out pattern observed. While it is |possible that a tornado can form along a leading edge of a bowing |segment which would resemble an eddy, we were unable to discern |from the damage if that had occurred. Regardless, a wind event |took place in this region which resembled mid range EF1 damage. |Several reporting stations throughout northern Forsyth County |recorded wind gusts of 68 and 69 mph. Winds with these pockets of |more intense tree damage, particularly along Tallant Road, is |estimated to have been 90-95mph.
