What happened

The episode as NWS ABR wrote it up.

A low pressure system moved quickly across South Dakota and rapidly deepened as it tracked into Minnesota and the Western Great Lakes region. Little to no snow was observed west of the James Valley, and the main impact from the system was high winds, with peak gusts of 63 mph measured at the DOT sites in Ridgeview and Mellette, while the Aberdeen regional airport clocked a peak gust of 62 mph. Almost every observation site between north central and central South Dakota and down the James Valley had a peak wind gust of 50 mph or greater. Farther east, snow and high winds combined to produce blizzard conditions.
