.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure passes north of the region later today and
tonight along with a cold front bringing a period of showers and
storms this afternoon. High pressure passes through on
Thursday providing a period of dry and seasonable weather. Low
pressure passes through on Friday and then meanders over New
England through the weekend. Another area of low pressure
approaches from the southwest early next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
The large stacked low pressure system will move slowly north of
our area today and tonight, with a cold front crossing the
region this afternoon. Light rain will continue to spread into
the area into early this afternoon. Scattered tstms are
expected too with the better instability, shear, and forcing to
the North. A Marginal risk for severe is in the new SPC outlook
for NJ north of BLM- TTN. Pops are higher for the N/W areas too
with high likely/low categorical and the pops taper off to
chance for srn Delmarva. Highs today will range from the low 80s
for the shore areas of NJ/DE where the sun will prevail longer.
Further W highs will hold closer to the low 70s. Winds will
increase from the SW at 10 to 15 mph with gusts to 25 mph. Tstms
that do develop to the N/NE may contain small hail and gusty
winds. Wording to that effect will be in the public products.
Tonight, the front will continue east and offshore. Drier and
cooler air will arrive. Decreasing clouds are expected and gusty
winds for the evening will diminish. Low will drop to the low
50s N/W and mid/upper 50s elsewhere.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure builds through the region on Thursday before
moving offshore Thursday night. Low pressure then approaches
Thursday night. Mostly sunny and mild on Thursday with highs
right around normal levels, topping off in the upper 70s to low
80s throughout.
Upper level low pressure over the Great Lakes then moves into
western New York and western Pennsylvania Thursday night. Low
pressure organizes and develops just west of the area and tracks
through northern New Jersey and the Lower Hudson Valley during
the day Friday. Showers develop on Friday with categorical PoPs
for the southern Poconos, northern New Jersey, and the Lehigh
Valley, and likely PoPs most elsewhere.
With southerly flow developing ahead of the approaching low,
surface dew points will rise into the 60s throughout. Highs will
also be in the upper 70s to low 80s. SB CAPE values will rise
to 1000 to 1500 J/kg, except for possibly as high as 2000 J/kg
in the far northern zones. There will also be 30 to 35 kt of 0-6
km Bulk Shear. As a result, can expect at least a chance for
thunderstorms with the potential for gusty winds and hail in the
afternoon.
Low pressure then moves into New England Friday night. Showers
and thunderstorms taper off Friday evening. Westerly flow
develops behind the departing low, and conditions will only
marginally dry out towards Saturday morning.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A period of unsettled weather is on tap for the Long Term
period. While the weekend does not look to be a washout, there
will be chances for rain. A bigger system may approach early
next week.
Surface low pressure and a closed upper low will meander over
New England on Saturday, and will depart on Sunday. Several
shortwaves will rotate around the upper low, and this will be
enough for scattered showers and possible thunderstorms, mainly
in the northern third of the forecast area, on Saturday. Near
normal highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. A tightening pressure
gradient will result in northwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts
up to 25 mph.
Although the main system will depart on Sunday, there will be
another shortwave that rotates through the region during the
day. Although chances for showers will be lower than Saturday,
there is still at least a slight chance for showers and possibly
a thunderstorm, mainly in the northern areas.
A closed upper low dives into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys on
Monday, and low pressure will organize and develop over the
eastern Gulf Coast and Southeast U.S. A warm front will develop
out ahead of this system and will lift towards the Mid-Atlantic
and Northeast. The main system will meander over the Southeast
into Tuesday, but several waves of low pressure will spin off
this system and lift towards the Northeast during this time. For
now, will follow the NBM and carry chance PoPs for the Monday-
Tuesday time frame.

Today...Increasing clouds and chances for showers thru the
afternoon. The chances for rains/tstms and lower conditions
will be greater at KRDG/KABE/KTTN. Sub-VFR possible in showers
and tstms mostly 16Z thru 20Z at those terminals. There is
limited confid in tstms and lower conditions for KPNE/KPHL/KILG
so mostly VCSH/VCTS for now. Winds becoming S/SW and increasing
to 10 to 15 kts with gusts around 25 kts. After a front passes,
winds become W and diminish by dusk. Medium confid overall.
Tonight...VFR conditions with decreasing clouds. Winds mostly
W/NW at 5 to 10 knots then less than 5 knots late. Medium/high
confid.

Winds and seas will build across the waters today as a low
pressure area and cold front approach. Right now it appears that
conditions will go to SCA criteria with gusts over 25 kts and
seas approaching 5 ft at the two northern-most NJ coastal zones.
We will issue a SCA for the Noon to 8PM period with the next
issuance. Scattered tstms this afternoon will bring higher winds
and seas with SMW's flags possible. The more hazardous tstms
will mostly be across the northern/central NJ waters.
Tonight, following the cold front winds will shift to W or NW
