Cold air flowing across Lake Ontario within a deep upper level trough resulted in locally heavy lake effect snow bands impacting central Jefferson and western Lewis counties. The event lasted 18 hours. Due to the snow and localized whiteout conditions, a multicar pile-up including four tractor trailers, occurred on Interstate 81 just south of Watertown, NY. Selected snowfall totals included 17.1 inches near Copenhagen, 13.0 inches in Lorraine, and 9.8 inches near Adams.
