.SYNOPSIS...An upper trough continues to bring robust winds,
colder conditions, and areas of frost to the silver state. This
inclement weather will persist into mid week before the trough
weakens. Light rain showers and high elevation snow showers
through the same time frame for northern and eastern Nevada.
Expect cold conditions Tuesday and Wednesday mornings with near to
below freezing temperatures, cover sensitive plants during these
mornings.

.SHORT TERM...Today and Tuesday.

An upper level trough is centered over the Pacific NW with the
silver state firmly under it influence. This trough is causing
gusty winds, colder conditions, and the showers that are impacting
the silver state. Some moisture has been pushed into northern and
eastern NV today with moisture lingering across only northern NV
for Tuesday. This will cause a 10-30% chance of showers and
thunder for northern and eastern NV today and 10-30% chance for
showers and thunder along the northern border Tuesday. The colder
conditions will allow for snowfall at high elevations of the
mountain ranges. The amount of moisture associated with these
precipitation is low so accumulations will be minor. Today is
seeing the strongest winds from this trough with 30s to 40s mph
winds being common and some gusts even reaching into the 50s mph
range. These winds are picking up dust leading to reduced air
quality and visibilities. The winds will make travel difficult
especially on N/S routes and for high profile vehicles with a Wind
Advisory remaining in effect through this evening. Cold air is
fully moving across the silver state from the north with the
temperatures 10 to 15 degree below normal. This will produce high
temperatures of 50s to 80s today with northern NV being colder and
central NV being warmer today. Tuesday highs will be in the 50s
to 70s with north NV being colder than central NV. The overnight
will be more uniform with 20 to 30s expected for much of the
silver state, however a few warmer valleys in central NV may
remain in the 40s. As temperatures overnight will be near to below
freezing a frost advisory to a freeze warming is in effect for
most of northern and central NV for both tonight into Tuesday
morning and Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

.LONG TERM...Wednesday through Monday

By midweek, a deep upper level trough sets up over the Pacific
Northwest and a strong upper ridge extends north of Mexico. With
the exception of a few stray showers along the higher elevations,
mostly quieter weather is expected with dry, southwesterly flow
aloft wedged between the trough and ridge. A second upper trough
and low develops along the west coast beginning on Thursday. As
the system slowly lifts northward into the CWA, there a potential
for scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly along the
ID/NV border Thursday through Friday evening. Heading into the
weekend, models remain in consistent agreement with a third upper
trough/low affecting the region. By early next week, the EC and
GFS diverge in the timing and placement of trough axis, leaving
the potential either for another round of isolated
showers/thunderstorms or maintaining benign weather instead.
Temperatures will start out in the mid 30s to low 40s for early
Wednesday before rebounding in the 60s and 70s by the
afternoon/evening. Daytime highs will slowly warm up for the rest
of the week under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies before
cooling back down by Monday with the third system.

.AVIATION...Gusty afternoon winds trend lighter this evening and
tonight. Winds become light overnight at all terminals aside from
KTPH where breezes will persist. Associated BLDU and HZ will also
come to an end in conjunction with diminishing winds. Any -SHRA or
VCTS remaining at KELY will also come to an end. VFR conditions
are anticipated at all terminals tomorrow with generally fair
weather aside from afternoon breezes. One exception however may be
for KWMC where VCSH may be present mid day. Although this is
currently low confidence and will not be reflected in the 00Z TAF.

.HYDROLOGY...Portions of the Humboldt River continue to run
elevated, and Flood Warnings remain in effect for the Comus and
Battle Mountain locations. Outside of the Humboldt, there is also
a Flood Advisory still in effect for Lamoille Creek. Drier
conditions this week are helping to mitigate some flooding
concerns.
