Drought conditions improved significantly over the central and eastern Sandhills in October. Heavy rain fell on October 11th and 12th over the Sandhills into portions of north central Nebraska. By the end of October, moderate (D1) drought conditions were present over eastern Chase County with the remainder of western and north central Nebraska experiencing no drought conditions.

The cooperative observer at O'Neill reported 4.89 inches of precipitation for October. This was 2.59 inches above the normal of 2.30 inches. At the Broken Bow Airport, 6.15 inches of precipitation was reported for October. This was 4.30 inches above the normal of 1.85 inches.
